NBA Rumors: Boston Celtics' Rajon Rondo Is Competitor Los Angeles Lakers Crave
The Boston Celtics have had just about enough of Rajon Rondo, and that has to come as fantastic news to the Los Angeles Lakers who could use a guy like him.
ESPN's Chris Broussard does what he does best in beating the rumor bushes to uncover the latest and greatest in front office shuffling.
Sources divulged to Broussard the Celtics are actively looking to shop Rajon Rondo, and the report states the following:
"The Celtics find Rondo's personality to be too high-maintenance and his clashes with coach Doc Rivers remain an off-court distraction, sources told Broussard, and the front office is now actively pitching him to other teams. With the Celtics realizing they are no longer title contenders, they don't believe his point guard prowess is worth the headaches Rondo brings, sources say. And they do not want to build around him.
"
The Lakers play a huge role in where Rondo will end up, or at least they should. Nick Borges of ESPN reminds us of the following:
"There have been rumors about a Rondo-Pau Gasol swap and now we get news that Boston has talked to Golden State about Stephen Curry, but the Warriors backed off. The Celtics now have concerns about Curry due to his lingering ankle issues.
"
The rumor mill continues to turn and turn with players like Pau Gasol keeping a fresh bag of clothes at the ready.
Even when the purple and gold aren't rumored in high-profile deals, they are knee deep in lesser acquisitions that wouldn't necessarily floor you with the talent.
From Ramon Sessions to Michael Beasley, not one of them would be a game-changer to revolutionize who this Lakers team is or what they will be going forward.
Unless of course the player in question is Rondo.
Before we continue, let's just say that Pau Gasol is a wonderful player that doesn't get nearly enough credit for his production and versatility.
The Lakers are stuck at being a good team and not a great one without a solid point guard. Such is the bane of losing the triangle offense.
Rondo is not only a point guard that can lead a championship-caliber team, he would be the perfect fit next to Kobe Bryant, a player that also plays with grit.
Rondo may be moody and play like he has a chip on his shoulder, but so does Bryant.
There is no better player to keep Rondo in check than Bryant, and the two would make other players accountable.
The Lakers cannot let Gasol go for just anybody. They need to bring back a big-time player.
That player can be Rajon Rondo.
