Michael Jordan Engaged: His Airness Still Has It Better Than Everyone Else

I totally remember taking the "Be Like Mike" jingle to heart when I was a kid. Indeed, I could think of nothing better than being Michael Jordan. For a day, for a week, forever, whatever. 

You know what the weird part is? As I get older, I find that I want to be even more like Mike.

This is especially true now, as news came out from WCNC in Charlotte that His Airness has gotten engaged to longtime girlfriend Yvette Prieto, a Cuban-born model who is more lovely than 99.9 percent of the women I've ever come across.

It was easy enough to be envious of MJ when he was dating Prieto. Now he gets to spend the rest of his life with her.

This is, of course, assuming MJ's second marriage doesn't go the way of his first. That one didn't end well, and it ended up costing Jordan more than $150 million, according to Forbes.

That's a lot of money, but it should serve as a reminder of just how disgustingly rich MJ is. Last January, several years after his divorce from his first wife was finalized, Jordan's net worth was estimated by Forbes to be about $525 million. 

Among Jordan's assets is the majority ownership of the Charlotte Bobcats, and the reason he is able to afford majority ownership of the Bobcats is because of the millions upon millions of dollars he's made peddling other peoples' products.

For all we know, he still gets royalties every time somebody watches the old "Be Like Mike" commercial on YouTube.

As if having a beautiful wife and being rich and powerful weren't enough, Jordan is also universally regarded as the greatest basketball player ever, and he is credited for revolutionizing the sport and making the NBA a worldwide phenomenon.

Somewhere out there (i.e. my desk immediately to my left) is a checklist of all the things a man has to do to live an awesome life. With his engagement to Yvette Brieto set in stone, MJ has met a lot of the list's requirements. In fact, I'll wager he even has Hugh Hefner beat.

As for myself, I only have a couple things checked off. If you're reading this and your name is not Michael Jordan, the same is true of you. We have a long way to go to catch Jordan, my friend.

But alas, I fear we're better off accepting defeat and just being happy to be envious of Jordan. He's lived a hell of a life, and it's apparently only getting better.
