Every NFL Team's New Year's Resolution
Every year, people all over set different goals for the year. Whether it be cutting a few pounds, finding a new job, stop drinking or win a million bucks, we all have resolutions for the year ahead.
The same goes for NFL teams. Here are the resolutions for all 32 teams in the National Football League.
Washington Redskins
1 of 32Draft a quarterback.
The Washington Redskins have been so inconsistent this year, it's not even funny. Between Rex Grossman and John Beck at QB, it hasn't been pretty.
They need to draft a QB in the 2012 draft and stick with him to lead the team. There are some bright spots on this team, and with a big-time player, they have potential.
Philadelphia Eagles
2 of 32Stop dreamin'; start playin'.
The amount of talent this team has is crazy. They need to work harder next year and avoid injuries. They have proven this year that they can play at a high level, and if Michael Vick can stay healthy then they will be a great team. Consistency is key!
Don't talk the talk unless you walk the walk!
Dallas Cowboys
3 of 32Stop the big mistakes!
The Dallas Cowboys are a very talented football team. They have the potential of beating every team, but here is the kicker—every team has the potential to beat them as well.
The Cowboys need to stop playing to the level of their contenders and keep a high level of play consistently throughout the season.
If Dallas can reduce their slip-ups and play at the same high level that is expected of them, then they will be a solid football squad in 2012.
New York Giants
4 of 32More consistent QB play.
The Giants have been up and down all year. Sometimes they look like champs, and other times they look awful.
Eli Manning must limit his interceptions and start playing at the level he was at when he led the Giants to a Super Bowl championship against the Patriots in 2008.
Minnesota Vikings
5 of 32Work with Christian Ponder.
Other than Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson, the Vikings really don't have any offensive weapons. Minnesota must draft some big-time players to build around Christian Ponder.
There is definitely potential in Ponder; with a few more playmakers around him the Vikings could be good.
Chicago Bears
6 of 32Stay healthy.
Just as the Bears were looking to be a high-profile team with a great chance at the playoffs, Jay Cutler gets injured. A game later, Matt Forte goes down. This team then went on to lose five straight.
They are now a 7-8 team that could very well have been 11-4. If they can stay healthy next year, this team will be a force to be reckoned with.
Detroit Lions
7 of 32Better discipline.
This talented squad is full of young guns who are ready to make names for themselves. They are already in the playoffs and have a decent shot at going all the way. The Lions need to stop killing themselves with all the silly penalties. No more stomping, punching or misbehaving!
Jim Schwartz needs to teach his team how to play football with more discipline in the offseason.
Green Bay Packers
8 of 32Limit opponents' yardage.
Not much needs to be fixed with the Green Bay Packers. They are having an amazing season and have a very good chance at the Super Bowl.
The only thing that needs a little bit of work is their defense. It is a bit shaky.
If they can play harder in the defensive backfield and tighten up on the receivers, they will be even greater next season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
9 of 32Bring in age.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a very young team. Last year they were the youngest team in all of the league, and this year they are even younger.
The Bucs need a leader. Josh Freeman is not completing the job, as proof this year for this team.
Tampa Bay must bring in some veteran players to show the youngsters how to do it. There is definitely talent on this team, but they have a lack of confidence and intelligence which can be curable, with a few experienced additions.
Carolina Panthers
10 of 32Let Cam do his thing.
Cam Newton is a monster of a rookie QB. He has brought a new energy to the Panthers team, which hasn't been seen for awhile.
If Cam Newton can reduce his interceptions and keep his play at the same high level in 2012, this team can very well contend with New Orleans and Atlanta.
Atlanta Falcons
11 of 32More running, more no-huddle.
When the falcons run the ball hard all game long with bulldozer Michael Turner, they win. When Matt Ryan runs the no-huddle the majority of the game, they win. Simple as that.
This is a talented team offensively and defensively; if they just do what they do best, they will be fine.
New Orleans Saints
12 of 32More Darren Sproles.
Don't get me wrong, the fact that Drew Brees throws the ball so much is not a bad thing at all, but using Darren Sproles more as a running back could help open up the offense even more than it already is.
Sproles only has 563 rushing yards on the season, but with only 81 carries he has an average of seven yards per carry.
If the Saints can start running the ball a little more rather than putting the game all on the shoulders of Drew Brees, then it will make them even more elite than they have been the past few seasons.
St. Louis Rams
13 of 32Sam Bradford must step up.
Last year, the Rams were a decent team with rookie QB Sam Bradford, who had a great first year as a starter. This year, it is a different story.
Battling with injuries, Bradford has been in a severe sophomore slump. He has not played to the potential he had set for himself last year. Some say it is because of a lack of talent around him, while others say it was simply just a bad year.
Whatever it is, Sam Bradford must step up to the task next season and play at a much higher level. Being drafted first overall brings its fair share of pressure, but next season he can prove to everyone why he was that great college QB and Heisman winner.
Arizona Cardinals
14 of 32Get more talent.
The Arizona Cardinals offense consists of Beanie Wells and Larry Fitzgerald. Kevin Kolb is starting to progress as a QB but is not yet ready to lead his team.
There are bright spots on this team, and with a little more talent on offense and a better Kevin Kolb, this team is looking upward towards next season.
Seattle Seahawks
15 of 32Draft offense.
The Seattle Seahawks have a pretty good defense, but their offense is very inconsistent. With the exception of Marshawn Lynch, there aren't really any impact players on the team. Tarvaris Jackson is not a true NFL quarterback, and Doug Baldwin is the definition of their receiving core: dull.
Pete Carroll must draft some top-notch receivers and pick up a quarterback in either free agency or the draft if this team wants any chance next year.
San Francisco 49ers
16 of 32Work with Alex Smith in the offseason.
New head coach Jim Harbaugh's 49ers are playing at an elite level this year. He has completely transformed this team from last year and is starting to use every player to his full potential.
Alex Smith must work hard in the offseason to become a great passer for 2012. He is a lackluster player who is coached to play not to lose.
Jim Harbaugh has done a lot to make Alex Smith a winning quarterback, but he won't be in San Francisco long if he doesn't obtain that star quality soon.
Miami Dolphins
17 of 32Play consistent football all season.
Between Matt Moore, Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush, the Miami Dolphins offense has become a lot better than last year.
If the defense can play as well as they did the second half of the season, and Matt Moore can keep progressing into a better quarterback, they could contend with the Patriots atop in the AFC East.
Buffalo Bills
18 of 32Use players to full potential.
The Buffalo Bills are oozing talent on offense and on defense. They started the season 5-2, but they then lost seven straight games before finally winning in Week 16.
They must play like they did the first seven weeks and continue to use players to their full potential, like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Fred Jackson, Stevie Johnson and C.J. Spiller on offense and Marcell Dareus on defense.
New York Jets
19 of 32Don't talk the talk, if you can't walk the walk.
Rex Ryan loves the chance to talk up his New York Jets. This year, however, his pride might have gotten in the way. The fans are starting to lose hope in Mark Sanchez, and the almighty defense that is supposed to be so good has been abused.
Next season the Jets must stop playing for pride and start playing for championships.
New England Patriots
20 of 32Build a better secondary.
The Patriot's defense is always the second runner to the offense. You figure, with such a great offense, who needs a defense?
The problem with that is there are teams now becoming great on both sides of the ball, offense and defense.
The Patriots have given up the most yards per game in all of the league this season. It is crazy how a team can be so good with these stats. If they can turn this defense around, then they will be far above most any other team next season.
Cleveland Browns
21 of 32Create more depth on the team.
The problem with the Browns is that there is very little talent on this team. Both their big players, Colt McCoy and Peyton Hillis, have struggled with injuries all season, and apart from them there are really no other significant players on this team.
Through the draft and free agency, the Browns will definitely have to find more star players and create more depth overall on the team.
Cincinnati Bengals
22 of 32Find a stud RB in the draft.
Andy Dalton and A.J. Green have made a serious impact on the Cincinnati Bengals this year. Between them and a great defense, this team looks like they might make the playoffs.
Cedric Benson looks to have come to the end of his career, however, and the Bengals will definitely be looking to the draft for a good running back.
Pittsburgh Steelers
23 of 32Re-energize the defense.
The Steelers defense has been on top of the NFL for the past decade, but this year they have started to fade. It doesn't help that they are an older squad and have less energy and youthfulness.
They are still a great defense, just not at the very top. If they can draft some young defensive players and insert some more youth onto the field, then this defense will have high hopes.
Baltimore Ravens
24 of 32Joe Flacco must improve.
It is obvious that the Ravens have one of the most dominating football teams in all of the NFL. Joe Flacco is the only thing holding this team down.
He is a proven winner, but he does not have that superstar quality. If he can find that this offseason, then the Ravens will have a better chance when they make it to the playoffs.
Indianapolis Colts
25 of 32Draft Andrew Luck, play Peyton Manning.
The Indianapolis Colts are in a win-win situation this offseason. They look to be receiving the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft and will have a healthy Peyton Manning back.
If the Colts can somehow convince Andrew Luck to sit behind Peyton Manning for a couple years, then they will have a superstar QB in the making and have another great decade of football.
Jacksonville Jaguars
26 of 32Draft talent.
The Jacksonville Jaguars offense has only one player worth mentioning: Maurice Jones-Drew. Other than that they really have no QB or receivers.
They must work with Blaine Gabbert a lot this offseason and definitely draft some highly-talented playmakers in the draft.
Tennessee Titans
27 of 32Drop Hasselbeck, add a QB.
It is clear that journeyman Matt Hasselbeck has reached the end of his career. He has been a mediocre quarterback all of his life, and that is all he will ever be.
The Titans must either look for a new quarterback next year or start Jake Locker. He looks to have a certain spark in his play which definitely draws the attention of the fans.
Houston Texans
28 of 32Stay healthy.
The Houston Texans have a great offense and a great defense. Unfortunately both the starting and backup quarterbacks are injured on this team, and they look to put the pressure on rookie and third-stringer T.J. Yates.
If Matt Schaub can stay healthy next season, then the Houston Texans will be one scary team.
Kansas City Chiefs
29 of 32Hold on to Romeo Crennel.
The Kansas City Chiefs are a very talented team. Their defense is very strong, and the combination of Matt Cassel, Dwayne Bowe and Jamaal Charles is a heart-breaker.
Defensive-oriented coach Romeo Crennel could be a really good thing for the Chiefs as they can be a very good team next year.
San Diego Chargers
30 of 32Get rid of Norv Turner.
Turner has been a solid coach for the San Diego Chargers. They consistently have a very talented football team, but each year they consistently fall short of their goals.
They must find a coach who can utilize these fine players and lead them to reach their full potential.
Oakland Raiders
31 of 32Help Carson Palmer.
The Oakland Raiders gave up a first and second-round pick for Palmer. With that in mind, you must invest in some quality players to help him out.
He doesn't have the best receiving group out there, which is hard for Palmer who has always had high-profile players.
The Raiders must build this team around Palmer now if they want any chance next season.
Denver Broncos
32 of 32Give Tim Tebow confidence.
This quarterback is at his best when the clock is ticking down and the ball is in his hands. The Broncos have a serviceable defense and a young, talented offense.
If John Elway can work with Tebow in the offseason, and give him a vote of confidence that would boost his morale, this whole team could be lifted to a new level.
