NBA Rumors: Did Rajon Rondo Run Away from Doc Rivers and Locker Room Drama?

Tim KeeneyDec 13, 2011

There has been a lot of talk lately about Rajon Rondo and whether or not he's a good fit for the Boston Celtics, or for any title contender in general.

Rondo is blessed with quick hands on defense, fantastic court vision and uncanny passing skills. He had plenty of question marks coming out of Kentucky, but he's turned himself into an All-Star point guard.

Still though, the 25-year-old has plenty of doubters. We won't even delve into his shooting woes, but his leadership and off-the-court issues might be rising to the surface.

According to the Boston Herald, Rondo went through quite the tirade between Games 2 and 3 of the Miami series last playoffs.

"

"According to multiple sources, Rondo’s errors were being pointed out when he arose and began discussing the mistakes of his teammates. Loudly. Using harsh language.

Coach Doc Rivers got up and fired back, and Rondo threw a bottle that shattered the video screen. He bolted from the practice facility and was prevented from returning when he tried later."

"

Yikes. That's not good.

Now, I'm sure most people will look at this story and say, "Oh, Rondo showed immaturity and bailed on his team. What kind of point guard does that?"

I'm not really in disagreement that he showed some immaturity with this act, but does this really make him not a leader?

You have to understand this was right smack in the middle of the NBA Playoffs. Tensions are high and the Celtics just went down 0-2 in the series. I'm sure everyone was a little pissed off.

You can't expect people to not be showing emotions, especially someone like Rondo, who you want to be a leader.

A leader wouldn't be getting upset after seeing himself making mistakes, a leader wouldn't take it so hard on himself to have an outburst like this, a leader wouldn't come back and apologize.

The outburst of breaking a video screen might be a little much, but you have to love the fire from Rondo. You have to love that he cared that much.

If he was just sitting there and taking all the abuse like it was nothing, then I would have doubts with him.

But Rajon Rondo clearly takes things personally—he knows he needs to get better and clearly wants to get better. I like that about him.

Again, he might have went a little far with this tirade, but honestly, who cares?
