NBA Lockout: Class Action Suit Won't Save Basketball Season
The more days that pass, the more likely it is that we're not going to be seeing any NBA basketball this season.
As was reported by Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today, the NBA season has been cancelled through December 15.
Now, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the court date from a lawsuit between the players and NBA may be moved up from February 29, 2012.

Admittedly, this seems promising. But we have to ask ourselves a few questions:
How long will this lawsuit take to be resolved?
How far will it be moved ahead?
When will it need to be resolved for any part of the season to take place?
Right now, I am just not liking the chances. The best hope for basketball to be played will come when the missed paychecks begin to pile up.
The players will miss their paychecks, while the owners will undeniably miss the revenue that they bring in on a nightly basis.
Such little progress has been made in these meetings thus far that nothing else will really do it.
I have no idea how this lawsuit would play out, but it wouldn't impact this season in any way.
The news is just consistently bad for the NBA. Even when something looks okay from the outside looking in, like a court date being moved up, it likely comes with a huge asterisk.
The bottom line is that the players and owners alike need to feel the consistent loss of revenue. I don't know that that will save the season, but nothing else will at this point.
The only chance of basketball this season will come from the desperation to make a deal. As of now, that hasn't happened. Neither side has been desperate enough to make a deal happen. Until one or both become desperate, we won't be seeing NBA basketball.
