NBA Lockout: Misery Made Official as NBA Cancels Games Through December 15th

John FrielNov 15, 2011

NBA fans, it has become official: There will be no more NBA season...at least through December 15th.

With the NBA announcing that even more games will be cancelled after the NBPA rejected the owners latest deal, the league has officially taken a turn for the absolute worst, as possibly more games and the entire 2011-12 season could be ultimately cancelled.

The owners have been offering a deal that would give each side 50 percent of all NBA revenue with half going to the players and the other half going to the owners. The players have consistently rejected the offer since the outset of the lockout and have lowered their portion of the revenue to 52 percent, but have not gone any further.

At this point of the lockout, the players association only feels that they would have wasted months only to come away with the same result that they could have had a few months ago. The players feel as if they're being pushed around by commissioner David Stern and the owners and have failed to reach any sort of agreement with verbal spats taking place between the commissioner and NBA All-Star Dwyane Wade, separating the two sides further.

The players may be vying for their pride, but at this point they're just being stubborn and selfish to the fans that have supported them throughout this enduring lockout. A 50/50 deal may not seem right to any one on this planet other than the billionaire owners that are pushing for it, but reaching a deal on Monday the 14th might have been the only way a nearly full regular season could have been saved.

Stern had said that if a deal was reached, there would be a 72 game season that would start immediately on December 15th. That has now completely gone out the window as games have been cancelled through then and may not start until the 2012-13 season when this whole deal is completely resolved.

The players and owners are losing money, but nobody seems to recognized the thousands upon thousands of stadium workers that make a living from October to May earning minimum wage serving the 20,000 fans that attend the 82 games and the postseason games following. This is hurting all people involved and those that we have supported for so long, the players, truly let the NBA world down by not accepting the deal that would have given the fans their basketball back.
