Milwaukee Bucks: 5 Personnel Decisions the Team Must Make This Offseason
The Milwaukee Bucks fell flat on their face in 2010-2011. Ā The season was a bust as they finished well below .500 and failed to make the playoffs. Ā
The Bucks have a lot of work to do once the offseason activities can begin. Ā Plenty of roster changes are likely in the works. Ā Let's take a look at five moves the Bucks should strongly consider making.
Note: The moves are in no particular order.
Re-Sign Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
1 of 5Luc Richard Mbah a Moute has been a solid role player for the Bucks for the past few seasons. Ā His defensive versatility should not be overlooked and he is a big reason the Bucks play so well on the defensive end of the floor. Ā His offensive game will continue to develop, but he will never be a big scorer. Ā
Mbah a Moute is a restricted free agent but will probably not garner a whole lot of attention on the market. Ā Re-signing Mbah a Moute would likely come at a decent price and is a move the Bucks would be wise to make. Ā Ā
Acquire a Veteran Backup Point Guard
2 of 5The Bucks let Luke Ridnour leave last summer during free agency. Ā It came back to haunt them, as they really missed Ridnour's scoring and energy off the bench. Ā PG Earl Boykins was supposed to fill the void but did not do the job. Ā
Starting PG Brandon Jennings will continue to develop. Ā But the Bucks need depth behind him. Ā Earl Watson will be a UFA this summer and could be an option for Milwaukee. Ā
Retain Carlos Delfino
3 of 5With the NBA lockout threatening to shorten the NBA season, many players are considering taking their talents overseas. Ā One such player is Bucks SF Carlos Delfino. Ā The Argentinian small forward would have no trouble finding work overseas, as he has already experienced playing professionally in Italy and Russia. Ā
The bad thing for the Bucks is that unlike most NBA players who would wait until the last minute to bolt for Europe, Delfino might not need that nudge. Ā He may leave earlier than others, not risking the loss of pay and playing time. Ā
Delfino is an important piece in the Bucks' rotation. Ā They would do well to retain his services. Ā
Sign J.R. Smith
4 of 5The Bucks desperately need scoring. Ā Bringing in SF Stephen Jackson helps, but they need another reliable option. Ā J.R. Smith is a UFA and the Bucks have the money to pay him. Ā He may come at a hefty price but he can score in bunches. Ā
Like Jackson, Smith is not a great defender, so they may be wary of having two defensive liabilities on the floor simultaneously. Ā However, they could opt to bring Smith off the bench, a role he has excelled in while playing in Denver. Ā
Acquire 3-Point Shooters
5 of 5To go along with the Bucks scoring woes last season was their deficiency of three-point shooters. Ā Brandon Jennings and Stephen Jackson are both average at best from beyond the arc. Ā The Bucks need one or two bonafide three-point shooters who can come in and knock down shots.Ā
This need can be addressed through free agency. Ā Options include UFA Shawne Williams, who could be signed at a low price, or UFA Jason Richardson, if the Bucks are willing to pay the money. Ā
Acquiring at least one good three-point shooter is a necessity for Milwaukee. Ā
