NBA Trade Rumors: 3 Teams That the Phoenix Suns Should Deal Steve Nash to

Chris TernateJun 7, 2018

A fan favorite and still one of the most dynamic point guards in the league, Steve Nash finds himself in the company of a few other big names this off-season who seem to be on the trading block.

The two time league Most Valuable Player and seven time NBA All-Star, his MVP days are seemingly behind him.

At 37, Nash is one of a handful of players in the league who are still going strong despite approaching the twilight of their careers.

However, while he may not have the capability to take over or control games like he did back in his 2005 and 2006 MVP seasons, he still has a few good miles left in the tank.

Thus, many teams have their eyes on Nash, mainly because of the fact that he can still run a team as good as any point guard in the league and the Phoenix Suns, should they decide to trade him can get plenty in return for his aging but still quality talent.Ā

That being said, here are three teams that the Phoenix Suns should deal Nash to.

Utah Jazz

The young Utah Jazz could use a guy like Steve Nash, a talented veteran with a few good years left in him, who is more than capable of guiding them towards a playoff run perhaps.

The Jazz are seemingly set at the point guard spot with Devon Harris, but if Phoenix can get them to, they could possibly send over Paul Milsap and Harris along with Al Jefferson in exchange for Nash and possibly Vince Carter's large contract.

While Phoenix already drafted a power forward in Markieff Morris, it couldn't hurt to bring along slowly while he develops behind Milsap or even play the two of them as a set of slightly undersized big men.

If all else fails, there's always the likelihood of a three team deal or using Milsap as trade bait given his potential.

It's probably a big stretch, but you never know.

Los Angeles Lakers

It really is hard to envision Steve Nash playing in purple and gold, but for the Phoenix Suns, sending their beloved Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers has a few upsides.

As everyone knows, Kobe Bryant may not have too many elite years left in him. So naturally the Lakers will want to give him and Pau Gasol all the help they can get, especially in new coach Mike Brown's post-triangle offense.

That's where Nash comes in, as a savvy facilitator to help guide their offense which isn't getting any younger.

For the Suns, this trade has a few possibilities. The Lakers have more than a few pieces they're willing to part with, the only thing is, most of them, like Andrew Bynum and Ron Artest, carry the liability of possible behavioral issues.

However, a rebuilding Suns' franchise could do with a young center in Bynum and possible trade bait in Artest or even Lamar Odom.

Its a tough deal to envision actually coming to fruition, but there can be some upsides to it.

New York Knicks

3 of 3

An ideal situation for the New York Knicks would be landing Steve Nash in an even exchange for their current point guard, Chauncey Billups.

Nash, already familiar with Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni's offense and former teammate A'mare Stoudemire, would seemingly be right at home in an uptempo, offensively driven style of play.

However, that would be a perfect world for New York.Ā

The fact is that the Knicks would have to give up a lot more than just former NBA Finals MVP Billups in order to land Nash.

The Knicks present an interesting opportunity for the Suns. If the Knicks would really want to get Nash, they would likely send over Billups along with maybe Ronny Turiaf and the young Landry Fields.

In exchange, the Suns could send over an somewhat-past-his-prime Nash and perhaps a well-past-his-prime Vince Carter.

Obviously it's a stretch, but the Suns could land a couple soon-to-be-expired contracts in 2012 or a younger pair in Billups and Fields, depending on how you look at it for Nash.
