NBA Draft 2011: 5 Teams That Should Consider Trading Up with Their Pick
Now that the finals are over it's time for teams to start preparing for the NBA draft.
From here on outย organizationsย are going to be narrowing down their searches for the prospects they plan on choosing. The teams in the NBA all have a general idea of where each player will be selected in the early rounds. If a team outside the top 10 wants to choose a player they feel will be picked inside the top 10, they have some work to do.ย
This is the time for teams to start planning on what they will do come draft night and how they will try and jockey for position in the draft to end up with the players they want.
Here is a list of some teams that should consider trading up with their pick.
New York Knicks
1 of 5
The New York Knicks are in an interesting spot in this draft. They have their eyes on a few different guys in their range like Marshon Brooks or Josh Selby but are really hoping that Jimmer Fredette could fall to them.
Jimmer was born to play in an offense like Knick's coach Mike D' Antoni's and the Knicks would only have to jump up a few spots to have a shot at him.
Right now most feel that the Indiana Pacers will select Fredette at the 15 spot and if the Knicks could work out a deal with Houston at 14 orย Phoenixย at 13 they could take The Jimmer.
Jimmer would be able to learn the point guard position behind Chauncey Billups and start his career off with two outstanding offensive weapons to pass to in Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.
Jimmer is going to need to land in the right place to beย successfulย in the NBA and I feel New York is that spot.ย
Charlotte Bobcats

The Charlotte Bobcats are currently in no-mans land.ย
They are stuck in the dreaded spot of not being good enough to make the playoffs but not bad enough to get a high pick in the draft.
They can either try and move some pieces to rebuild next season or trade up in this years draft to get a player to build around in the future.
If they choose the latter option, theyย wouldn'tย have to move up very high to get something theyย desperatelyย need, a face of their franchise.
If the Bobcats could package together a trade, perhaps involving Stephen Jackson, they could possibly end up with the number two pick, which it is rumored that Minnesota has been shopping.
The Bobcats could then take Derrick Williams or Brandon Knight and have a piece to build their future team around.
Detroit Pistons
3 of 5
Theย Detroitย Pistons have a couple of nice options available at their current spot but with some work they could end up stealing this draft's spotlight.
The Pistons could put together a deal to trade for either the ย Minnesota Timberwolves or Utah Jazz' pick and end up with Derrick Williams or Enes Kanter, both great prospects.
They would then be able to pair Kanter with their promising young power forward Greg Monroe and have a good looking front court for years to come.
Or, if they ended up with Williams, have a player on the wing they could also put talent around and start to beย competitiveย like they were in the early part of the decade.
Whatever Detroit ends up doing it seems their best option would be to trade up for Kanter and build their front court with size while the rest of the league seems to be going small.ย
Toronto Raptors
4 of 5
The Toronto Raptors are in one of the best positions to move up in the draft and they would love to end up with either Brandon Knight or Derrick Williams.
The best chance the Raptors would have at swapping spots would be with the Minnesota Timberwolves. They could easily package their pick with some other parts and end up with the second overall pick in the draft.
The Raptors could then take Brandon Knight and pair him with Demar DeRozan at shooting guard and have one of the best prospect lined back courts in the game.
Williams would also be a good pick for them and fill a "need" but I see Knight fitting in better.
Cleveland Cavaliers
5 of 5
The Cleveland Cavaliers already control this years draft with the number one overall pick, but they could easily also end up with the number two.
The Cavaliers have many holes to fill and the best way of doing that is through high picks in the draft.
The Cavaliers, like most other teams trying to move up, would need to work out a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves involving the number four pick, which Cleveland also has.
Cleveland could then draft Kyrie Irving to run the point and Derrick Williams to fill the gaping hole at small forward the Cavaliers have.
Williams and Irving could help heal the wounds LeBron inflicted when he left Cleveland and they could be the main part of a bright future for Cleveland basketball.
