NBA Free Agency 2011: 5 Teams Who Could Use Glen 'Big Baby' Davis
Glen "Big Baby" Davis will be a free agent this offseason, and rumors about his new destination have already surfaced.
Davis finished fourth on the Celtics in scoring, averaging 11.7 points a game.
He has done a fine job throughout his career as a reserve player by providing quality minutes off the bench.
While he would continue to serve as a valuable bench player for many squads, some teams may offer him the chance to start.
Here are five teams who could use "Big Baby:"
5. Charlotte Bobcats
1 of 5
Though they finished 14 games under .500, the Charlotte Bobcats were a much-improved team this season, finishing only two spots from a playoff berth.
The Bobcats may have a gaping hole at power forward very soon.
Boris Diaw is a free agent, and he should draw significant interest after a few solid years in Charlotte.
Dante Cunningham was a decent bench player, but he’s a restricted free agent and may receive offers the Bobcats are unwilling to match.
If the Bobcats lose these two power forwards, Davis could be an option, especially as a starter.
The team is very young, so adding a veteran presence with postseason experience would make sense.
4. New Orleans Hornets

Both David West and Carl Landry are scheduled to be free agents for the New Orleans Hornets.
West is coming off an injury, and Landry may garner attention from other teams.
That would create a space for Davis.
Davis is accustomed to playing with Rajon Rondo, a skilled point guard, so playing with Chris Paul would further elevate "Big Baby’s" game.
Though Paul may not be in New Orleans much longer, he and Davis could form a dominant offensive duo.
3. Denver Nuggets
3 of 5
The Denver Nuggets’ overhaul of their roster is still not complete, even after the Carmelo Anthony trade.
Nene Hilario, J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin will all likely call somewhere else home during this summer's free agency period.
Davis could be an option to start right away for the Nuggets as Martin's replacement.
"Big Baby’s" energy and passion would set a great example for Denver’s younger players.
2. San Antonio Spurs
4 of 5
Tim Duncan has an ETO (early termination option) this offseason.
Duncan is no spring chicken, but it seems unlikely the San Antonio Spurs would part ways with the player who has carried the franchise for more than a decade.
Signing Davis would be a great move to provide depth behind Duncan.
"Big Baby" would assume a similar role to the one he’s had in Boston. However, he would likely get even more playing time as the Spurs would try to give Duncan as much rest as possible.
Once Duncan calls it a career, the reins of the power forward position would be handed over to Davis.
Davis and DeJuan Blair would form a scary front court in San Antonio.
1. Boston Celtics
5 of 5
Of all the teams, the Boston Celtics—Glen Davis’ current team—could use him the most.
Davis has been a consistent force off the bench for the Celtics the past four seasons.
Though he would assume the same role coming off the bench, the Celtics must realize Kevin Garnett won’t be around forever.
Garnett’s numbers have declined slightly since coming to Boston, but he has also benefited from playing with other scoring options like Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.
Garnett just turned 35, so Boston has to consider its future at the position.
The team can offer Davis a multi-year deal with the hope he is content with being a bench player until Garnett retires.
If he remains with the Celtics, Davis will have a chance to compete for an NBA championship every year, which may play a role in his decision.
Boston will do what it can to retain its productive power forward.
