Erik Spoelstra Does Not Have Much Time Left Coaching the Heat
Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra appears to be on the hot seat.
There has been much speculation as to whether LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh respect him. It might also have something to do with him being 40 years old. Heโs 11 years older than Wade, 14 more than James and 14 more than Bosh. For three superstars, that is like big brother territory.
Earlier this season, James was seen โwalking throughโ Spoelstra on the way to a timeout. James later said he was in full support of Spoelstra.

The most recent episode stems from Spoelstra saying, โThere are a couple guys crying in the locker room right now.โ
It did not take long for the media to react.
Before he knew what hit them, the comments were garnering national attention, and Spoelstra was backtracking, saying, โThis is a classic example of sensationalism, looking for a headline. I really think you guys are probably reaching for this. Guys were very emotional about it in the locker room. Heads were down. I saw glossy eyes, but that's about it. I think everything else is probably an exaggeration.โ
Even though the Heat are one for 16 in game-winning or tying shots under 10 seconds, someone is going to get the blame placed on them. Unfortunately for Spoelstra, itโs going to be him.
If Spoelstra falls anything short of the conference finals this year, I canโt see him returning for another year. Itโs not his fault, but I do not think he is fit for the job of handling the Miami Mega Three. He could be a great coach for all I know, but we will not get to witness it with James and co. running the show.
The worst part for him is I donโt see the Heat getting to the conference finals this year. With the obvious lack of depth, starting center and starting point guard, I find it nearly impossible for them to capture the title this year. If this holds true, Spoelstra will not be returning for the 2012 season.
The Heat are going to win an NBA title eventually; itโs just too bad Spoelstra wonโt be there to lead them.
