Carmelo Anthony Trade: Is It Too Soon to Say the Knicks Fleeced the Nuggets?

Only two days after the blockbuster deal involving Carmelo Anthony, there has been word going around that the Knicks charged the Nuggets too much in the trade.

It has only been two days, meaning the Knicks and Nuggets have only played one game since the big trade. Therefore, it is way too early to say that the Knicks fleeced the Nuggets.

Carmelo Has Only Played One Game with the Knicks

The only thing that the New York Knicks have won so far, with Carmelo, is one game. The Knicks have not won a championship and, for that matter, they have not even made it to the playoffs.

It is too early to tell what the Knicks' chemistry will be like with Carmelo and Chauncey Billups. For all the Knicks know, their team could be worse off with Melo.

Before the trade, the Knicks were Amar'e Stoudemire's team. Now whose team is it?

Although this may not be that big of a deal, Melo's style does not match up with Stoudemire's. It is simply way too early to know how good of a team the Knicks can be with Anthony.

The Nuggets Have Not Played with Their New Team

The Denver Nuggets have played one game since Carmelo and Billups left the team. In that game, Denver looked really good and they won, 120-107, against the Memphis Grizzlies.

That game was without the additions of Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari.

The Nuggets' new team has a whole new look to it and who knows, they may be really good. Denver has a lot of talent on their team, although they are missing a big-name player.

Now that the Carmelo drama is over, they can move on and start playing some basketball.

The Bottom Line

The Denver Nuggets had to trade Carmelo Anthony. If they did not, Carmelo would have signed with another team at the end of the season and the Nuggets would have nothing to show for it.

Instead, the Nuggets traded Anthony to the Knicks and got some really good players. Although the Nuggets would have liked Anthony to stay, they can at least move on from all of the drama and rebuild the team that they have.

Although Anthony made the Nuggets a contender, he did not win a NBA title for them and he has not won a NBA title for the Knicks yet, either.

With that said, it is way too early to say that the Knicks fleeced the Nuggets.

At this point, the Nuggets can say they fleeced the Knicks because they got three quality players out of them. If the Nuggets would have not made this deal, they might have gotten less from New Jersey or nothing at all if Carmelo stayed until the end of the season.
