NBA Trade Rumors: DeMarcus Cousins to the Houston Rockets for Aaron Brooks?

Yesterday the Sacramento Bee reported, "The Kings are aggressively pursuing a move and reportedly have inquired about Atlanta's Jeff Teague and Houston's Aaron Brooks, among others, though team officials declined to comment on the speculation."

I'm not a huge Aaron Brooks fan and actually like the idea of trading Brooks for Cousins, but it wouldn't be straight up. 

The deal that I put in the NBA trade machine was DeMarcus Cousins and Carl Landry for Aaron Brooks, Jarred Jeffries and Patrick Patterson or Jordan Hill. Add in a first-round draft pick from Houston.

Why Houston Does It

DeMarcus Cousins: DeMarcus was taken with the fifth overall pick in last year's draft. He is tabbed by many to be a future All-Star, maybe even superstar. Houston is in need of a physical presence at the center position and DeMarcus fills that. With Yao Ming to learn from DeMarcus will reach his full potential in Houston. DeMarcus can also play the four spot if need be.

Carl Landry: Landry was traded from the Rockets to the Kings in the McGrady/Martin trade last year. Houston was very reluctant to trade Landry because they liked his game so much, but realized it was for the best. Now if the opportunity to get Landry back approached them they would jump on it. 

Aaron Brooks: I've wanted to get rid of Brooks for a while now. Sure he scores a lot of points, but he looks for his shot first. The Rockets need a point guard who looks to get his teammates involved. This is what Lowry/Smith do. Getting rid of Brooks would help the team.

Why Sacramento Does It

Aaron Brooks: Sac Town desperately needs a new point guard. The combo of Beno Udrih and Pooh Jeter really isn't working. Brooks brings them a dynamic scorer to go along side Tyreke Evans. Brooks gives Evans some relief in scoring and will bring out the best in him. Brooks is on his way to becoming a top 10 point guard if he isn't already.

Jarred Jeffries: Jeffries wouldn't be an attractive asset at all if it wasn't for his $7 million expiring contract. This expiring contract will give the Kings a lot of options to ponder this upcoming offseason with guys like Caron Butler and Jamaal Crawford becoming free agents. 

Patrick Patterson: Patterson was selected 14th overall in last year's draft by the Rockets. The Rockets think very highly of him and think he has excellent potential. He hasn't played in an NBA game this year and is currently in the NBA Developmental League.

Jordan Hill: Hill was selected in the lottery two years ago by the New York Knicks, he was traded to the Rockets in the McGrady/Martin deal. Hill is a rebounding and blocking machine. In 15 minutes per game he is averaging four rebounds and one block. He is extremely athletic and only 23 years old.

Draft Pick: With this draft pick the Rockets have the ability to swap it with the New York Knicks. This is an extremely attractive option.

This trade works out for both teams in terms of players and money. Houston gets their big men and Sacramento gets their point guard and expiring contract.
