Cav's Owner: Sportswriters Are "Bored"

Lisa HorneAug 11, 2008

When Cav's owner Dan Gilbert was confronted with the alleged rumor of Lebron James mulling over a possible 50 million dollar offer to play for Greece in 2010, Gilbert, in all of his wisdom, took a shot at the press.

'The reason this thing is where it's at,'' Gilbert said, ''is that we've got a bunch of bored, East Coast sports writers who have nothing to do because the off-season is a few months away and the Olympics [hadn't] started yet.''

Memo to Gilbert: King James should go since you haven't done Jack about getting him any help to win the title. But the press bored?

Hardly. And this is just another indication of you sticking your head in the sand to avoid the real problem: your team, if it weren't for Lebron, is boring.

So yeah, maybe we are bored. We've had nothing to write about in the last few months.

We saw Manny get traded to the Dodgers.

The Pirates make a trade that still makes us wondering what the heck is going on in baseball.

The Angels own the Yankees.

Barry Bonds is still unemployed.

Tyrelle Pryor finally made up his mind.

Ryan Perrilloux got kicked off the LSU Tigers football team and went 2A on us.

NFL-great and future HOF'er Brett Favre's journey from Wisconsin to New York wasn't worth a headline.Ā

The UCLA Bruins' saga of "we have two quarterbacks", "we have no quarterbacks", "we now have one healthy quarterback" and "we once again have diddly-squat" has bored us to death.

The USC Trojans' quarterback Mark Sanchez dislocating his kneecap was not newsworthy. After all, it's not like a BCS contender losing their star player is a big deal.

Bench-clearing brawls in WBA and MLB have been a snooze-fest.

The city of Seattle losing their franchise basketball team? Meh.

Rich Rod losing his case to West Virginia wasn't compelling at all. Neither was the coaches top 25 preseason poll.

Kobe saying he would go Euro for 50 mil didn't generate any interest either.

Yup, we have been bored all summer. So bored, we took notice of when one of the NBA's best players and member of the Redeem Team said he would jump the pond if the price was right. How stupid of us.

Maybe we are waiting for some good news to come out of Ohio? In the last year, Ohio has been beset with mediocrity. Cincy Bengals? Time stooped for them in 2005. Browns? "Almost" should be their team motto. Buckeyes? 0-9. And the Cavs?

Their star player said he would leave for fifty mil and no one is supposed to care. Or report on it.

Is Gilbert setting the Cavs fans up for impending doom? Probably.

The mistake-on-the-lake continues to live up to its moniker, and we all should probably just ignore anything that goes on there. Is that the message Gilbert wants to convey?

No problem. We can do that.

Wake us up when something truly newsworthy comes out from Cleveland.

We're all ears.

* no offense to any Ohioans. You guys are truly great fans.
