Carmelo Anthony, Nuggets Contacted by Wizards About a Homecoming
Can you imagine? Welcoming 'Melo back to the DMV to play in a Wizards' uniform alongside the explosive John Wall?
On Friday, a league source confirmed that the Washington Wizards contacted the Denver Nuggets in regards to the No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 Draft and Baltimore native.
The source, however, assures that the phone call made by front office executives is simply their due diligence, claiming that 29 other teams have called about Anthony because, "Carmelo is pretty good."

Jimmy Part of Warriors' Plans
While the idea of Carmelo returning to the region is exciting, Wizards' insider Michael Lee claims that the likelihood of the homecoming is "on the shady side of slim." Denver has informed league executives that they are in search of expiring contracts, draft picks, and young prospects; after Anthony made it clear that he did not want to remain with the Nuggets.
According to Lee, "...the Wizards have no plans of trading No. 1 overall pick John Wall and no large expiring contracts of note, while the Nuggets have no interest in taking back bad contracts, which rules out shipping Gilbert Arenas and the four years and $80 million left on his deal."
And even if we wished for a miracle, Lee also adds, "...if the Wizards were to assemble an attractive package of young players—excluding Wall—there likely wouldn't be a team with enough remaining talent to encourage Anthony to sign an extension in Washington."
At the age of just 26, Anthony has already become one of the most prolific scorers in the league (24.7 career ppg avg). A list of possible destinations for the young superstar are rumored to be Houston, New Jersey, Los Angeles (Clips), Golden State, and Charlotte.
Hold your breath Wizards' fans. Actually...don't do that.
Thanks to Michael Lee of the Washington Post - incredible reporting as always.
