Best and Worst Kings Jerseys in Franchise History

TUNA EvansAug 24, 2010

The Kings franchise has seen many different jersey designs since 1948, when the team was known as the Rochester Royals. The Royals moved to Cincinnati in 1956, then again to Kansas City in 1972. In 1985, the team made its final relocation to Sacramento. The Kings have been innovators in their 62-year history, with some great jersey creations, and, well, some not so good. Here are the best jerseys in the Kings franchise history, and the one worst.

5. 1992 Sacramento Kings Jersey

This two-tone jersey design has a pretty unique look. The checkers on the sides are a little weak but still overall a cool jersey worn by one of the all-time great Kings, Mitch Richmond.

4. 1998 Sacramento Kings Jersey

Very simple and very cool uniform. The big block letters and black color made this an intimidating jersey when the Kings were “The Greatest Show on Earth,” according to Sports Illustrated in 2002.

3. 2009-Present

This jersey is what the Kings currently wear, and it’s a good one. The accented purple and black on the sides and lettering give the uniform a modern look. The crown decal on the back above the player’s name is pretty cool too.

2. 1960 Cincinnati Royals Jersey

Simple and classy, with the vertical stripes and red, white, and blue color. This jersey was worn by the greatest player is franchise history, Oscar Robertson.

1. 1972 Kansas City Kings, Nate Archibald Jersey (front)

5 of 7

The Kings were the first team to sport this classic design, with the player’s name under the number. The cursive lettering and the red, white, and blue make this uniform the best jersey design in the history if the Kings.

Worst Jersey in Franchise History: 1987 Sacramento Kings Jersey

The powder blue jersey was definitely different, but ultimately a misfire. There is nothing intimidating about wearing a color normally reserved for toddlers.
