Sacramento Kings Ready To Make Push Back Into Playoffs

Matt HanamotoAug 22, 2010

It has been a long time since the Kings were a legitimate Western Conference contender. It has taken years of rebuilding and a number of trades, but it finally looks like the Kings have the pieces necessary to make a push back into the playoffs. Led by last year's Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans and Co., the Kings have enough talent to make a name for themselves come next April.

The Kings back court consists of guards Tyreke Evans, Beno Udrith, Francisco Garcia, Antoine Wright, and Pooh Jeter. At the wings are Omri Caspi, and Donte Greene. And down on the post they have DeMarcus Cousins, Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Samuel Dalembert, and Hassan Whiteside.

Although there are not many big names lining the Kings roster, they have the build of a team that can surprise many opponents who do not take them seriously.

Tyreke Evans took the league by storm last year, averaging 20.1ppg, 5.3rpg, and 5.8apg. Now that Tyreke has had the time to adjust to the NBA, Kings fans can expect All-Star play from their blooming superstar. Tyreke's game ranges from his dynamic quickness, which allows him to score at will, to his improving jump shot which he will have to use much more often next year, due to defenses focusing intently upon him. Luckily for Tyreke, he will have some strong bodies working in the post and some smooth shooters roaming the perimeter.

The majority of Tyreke's help will come from late last season's acquisition Carl Landry. Landry was a hard worker for the Houston Rockets, and he brings a scrappy toughness that the Kings have been in dire need of. He bangs in the post, grabs boards, and basically does anything the team needs of him. He has deceivingly quick feet and gets around his defenders for tons of offensive rebounds. He is honestly one of the most underrated players in the entire league.

The big name I hope to be hearing a lot about next season is the Kings number one draft pick DeMarcus Cousins. This dude is a straight up beast. He's 6'11, 270 lbs, and plays with a strong passion for the game. DeMarcus has the potential to be great, and summer league showed off many of the skills I think the Kings saw when they drafted him. True, he will have to mature as a player and as a person, but his undeniable talent will make him one of the dominant big men in the league for years to come.

The Kings will have to scrap and fight for every game next year, but I believe that they have what it takes to break the pattern of the past couple of years and make it back into the playoffs.
