6 reasons Derrick Rose will emerge as the best PG in the NBA this year
Before any people want to disagree with my statement, hear me out. I will provide you with six solid reasons why there is a good chance my statement will come true.
Derrick Rose is already an established all-star and with the recent summer the bulls have had, it's time for Rose to flourish and take the next step into superstardom and stamp his name as the best PG in the NBA.
No. 6: Other point guards have weakened

While Rose may have nothing to do with this reason, it's got to be said. The only way Rose can vault himself to the top is, if he immensely improves and others weaken.
Well the latter one has already happened. Chris Paul, currently argued as the best PG in the NBA, has expressed interest in leaving the Hornets and playing for another franchise. The Hornets tried, but failed to meet his demands by acquiring Trevor Ariza. He won't be enough to keep CP3. Paul can't play well if his mind is focused elsewhere.
Deron Williams has lost almost a quarter of his team to the Bulls, which can only benefit Rose even more. Most notably Boozer, who was responsible for a large part of Williams' assists. Now with lesser talent on his team, Williams will take a hit in his production.
Rajon Rondo is certainly one of the best PGs but has never been the clear cut best. I don't see that changing as long as the big three are around. Rondo has not made improvements and will be in the category he was last year, which is a top five PG, nothing more.
Tony Parker, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd have little room to improve with all three of their teams either aging or losing talent.
Improved Defense

One of the biggest knocks on Rose the past few years has been his inability to defend.
Enter Tom Thibodeau
The new head coach of the Chicago Bulls is the defensive guru who helped the Celtics build an anchoring defense. That defense won them the 2008 NBA championship and took them to the 2010 NBA finals.
Thibodeau is also partly responsible for turning Rajon Rondo into the first team All-NBA defender that he is today. If he could do that with Rondo, Why not Rose?
I'm not saying Rose will immediately become an All-NBA defender but under Thibodeau, he should improve his defense immensely to a point where it cannot be argued as one of Rose's weaknesses.
Improved Stroke

We all have heard of how Rose has been working all summer to increase his range out to the 3-point line.
What we all don't know is that it's actually true. He's been showcasing it with Team USA and his shot has shown much more improvement with a higher arc, better wrist movement and a longer follow-through.
Now that Rose has (will) established a 3-point shot to his arsenal, there is nothing defenses can do to stop him. He's got the ability to drive to the basket and finish with the best of them and now has got a shot to counter in case defenses pack in the middle and cut off his drive.
More Assists

The Bulls pretty much owned this summer's free-agency, outside of a few teams (Miami). They were able to bring in a number of players for Rose to pass to.
Carlos Boozer is the obvious one but now when Rose drives, he's got legitimate 3-point shooters to pass it to in Kyle Korver and Keith Bogans. Added to that, when Rose is in transition, he can dish it off to Athletic guard Ronnie Brewer. He's also got scoring guard CJ Watson and veteran big man Kurt Thomas. Added to that are teammates Luol Deng and Joakim Noah, as well.
Rose averaged just 6 assists the past two years but should now see an immense bump up to 7 to 8 or possibly even 9 to 10.
Dominant Big Man
5 of 7
What do all PGs need? That's right, a dominant big man. After waiting for two years, Rose finally has that big man in Carlos Boozer.
Don't underestimate the importance of Boozer for Rose. He'll be one of the main reasons Rose becomes the top PG in the NBA.
First and foremost, Boozer can command a double team, freeing up Rose to either drive or shoot. Rose can run pick and role with Boozer all game long and even dump it down to the big man when he's offensively exhausted.
Boozer can rebound and finish Rose's drives. He can run with him in transition and he can hurt the opposing team when they're too focused on stopping Rose.
Carlos Boozer is just what the doctor ordered for Derrick Rose.
Magical Third year
6 of 7
While people may realize it or not, A player's third year in the NBA is when he typically breaks out and enters superstardom.
Case in point.
Chris Paul 3rd year - 21.1 ppg, 11.6 apg, 4.0 rpg, 2.7 spg
Paul's third year was when he stamped his name as the best PG in the league by putting up a monster double and lead the league in assists.
Deron Williams 3rd year - 18.8 ppg, 10.5 apg, 3.0 rpg, 1.1 spg
Williams' third year was when he put his name in the conversation with Chris Paul as the best PG in the league. While he may not have made the all star team, he truly deserved it.
Rajon Rondo third year - 11.9 ppg, 8.2 apg, 5.2 rpg, 1.9 spg
Rondo's third year was when he made the Celtics big 3 into a big 4 and entered the conversation as one of the game's best PG.
There's no reason to think Derrick Rose won't follow suit with these guys.
Conclusion = Best PG in the NBA
