So the near complete trade has become official.
The New Orleans Hornets, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, and New Jersey Nets are the four teams involved. Along with five players involved: Darren Collison, James Posey, Trevor Ariza, Courtney Lee, and Troy Murphy.
Going to New Orleans: Trevor Ariza
Going to Houston: Courtney Lee
Going to Indiana: Darren Collison and James Posey
Going to New Jersey: Troy Murphy
It is very hard to really say who got the best end of the bargain here. But it would have to be the Hornets and Pacers getting the better end of the deals. Whereas the Rockets by far get the worst deal.
The Hornets are getting an up and coming star in Ariza, and ship out the expiring contract of James Posey. They did have to give up Darren Collison who is going to be a great player in this league. But when you have the issues surrounding Chris Paul, and him wanting to leave. This guarantees that the Hornets are his team of the future.
Ariza will come in and be the starting small forward in the Hornets line-up. He will bring energy and a great defensive skill-set. He is improving on his offensive game and will get the chance to to so in the starting role.
Who Got The Better End of The Deal?
Also, the Hornets made another move today. Sending Julian Wright to Toronto for Marco Belineli. Giving the Hornets a great shooter in Belineli, and reassuring Ariza that he will be the starter. Assuming he gets no competition from Peja.
The Pacers get exactly what they needed. A bright, young stud point guard in Collison. Pair him up with Stephenson. And you got your back-court set for the next 10 years. Not a bad pick-up by the Pacers.
Posey is another decent pick-up for the Pacers because he brings that much needed three point threat off the bench. Which the Pacers were lacking last season. As well as a solid defender.
The Nets get Troy Murphy. In some ways the Pacers lucked out in someone willing to take on his contract, because he was not doing that great in Indiana. Though, Murphy is still a solid player. He can light it up for 40 points, as we all saw before his injury a few season back.
Murphy along with Favors will battle it out for the power forward position.
Now, this is where the trade takes a spin. Why would the Rockets honestly want Courtney Lee?
Ariza was part of the mix that was going to bring great things for the Rockets next season along with Brooks, Martin, Scola, and a healthy Yao.
But now, they trade him away, and get Courtney Lee. Who is a great young player, and looked like a star player in his Orlando days. But now you add Lee, who will be the back-up to Martin?
I am still scratching my head on why they made this trade. But the Rockets must see something in Lee.
Hornets Grade: A-
Pacers Grade : A+
Nets Grade: B-
Rockets Grade: F
Overall two teams got what they really needed (Hornets and Pacers). Where as one team stayed about the same before they announced the trade, and one team just got worse.
