NBA Power Rankings: Top 5 NBA Duos 26 & Under

0 of 5

The NBA is always loaded with young talent.  There are currently five different duos who are getting into the primes of their careers and ready to take over the NBA.

The following duos are players who are on the same team and no older than 26.  Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut are a good up and coming tandem, but there are five duos better than them.

5 - Derrick Rose & Joakim Noah

1 of 5

The list begins in Chicago where a former dynasty is quietly rebuilding itself amidst the LeBron James/Chris Bosh/Dwyane Wade free agency saga.

Derrick Rose is one of the young budding superstar point guards in the NBA and continued to bring his game to the next level last season.

In his first two seasons, Rose has improved his points per game and shooting percentage. With the acquisitions of Kyle Korver, Ronnie Brewer, and Carlos Boozer, expect Rose to become a virtual lock to average a double-double.

Rose is widely considered to be a member of the USA Men's Basketball Team that plays in Turkey in late August.  This tournament will enable Rose to gain even more experience for a point guard that is trying to become an elite player in the NBA.

Joakim Noah has also improved in each of three seasons in the NBA, especially last season.  He is beginning to show glimpses of a defensive minded center that can contribute double digit figures in the points category.

Last season, he averaged a double-double and also was the second-best rebounder in the Eastern Conference, behind Dwight Howard, before suffering an injury that limited his playing time down the stretch.

Although the Bulls lost Brad Miller, Noah’s mentor for the last season and a half, they added Carlos Boozer and Kurt Thomas. Boozer will command a double team in the post and enable Noah to assert himself more on the offensive glass. He, along with Thomas, will also serve as veteran leaders that will allow Noah to continue to grow.

4 - Deron Williams & Al Jefferson

2 of 5

The Utah Jazz lost Carlos Boozer to free agency and what better way to replace him than with a young power forward who is a powerful presence in the post?

They now have a replacement that has double-double potential and figures to do that plus more playing with a point guard of Deron Williams’ caliber.

That is something that is essential to Jefferson coming to Utah.

He has never played with an elite point guard. Deron Williams is considered to one of the best point guards in the NBA. Although that is a potential problem, Williams and Jefferson figure to mold their playing abilities to fit each others’ games.

Once he establishes chemistry with Jefferson, they should be a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference.

3 - Brandon Roy & LaMarcus Aldridge

3 of 5

The young duo in Portland has played together for four seasons now and was the sixth seed in a tough Western Conference last season.

They figure to contend once again with Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge leading the way.

Brandon Roy is growing into one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. He has been an All Star for three consecutive seasons now. If he can stay healthy, he should be able to average 20 points a game and lead the Trail Blazers to another postseason run.

His partner in crime will factor largely into that playoff push as well.

LaMarcus Aldridge is one of the young premier power forwards in the Western Conference.

The Trail Blazers did not make any significant moves in the offseason, but if Greg Oden stays healthy to alleviate some of the pressure applied on Aldridge in the post, Aldridge’s game will soar to new heights.  Although he is still an exceptional power forward by himself, Oden’s health also plays a factor in drawing away a defender.

2 - Kevin Durant & Russell Westbrook

4 of 5

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were on full display all of last season, but did not get the press they deserve because of other premier teams in the Western Conference.

After their performance against the eventual NBA Champions in the first round of the playoffs, the Western Conference will have a new found respect for the Thunder.

Led by the NBA’s youngest scoring title winner ever, Kevin Durant, the Thunder will be a force this upcoming season. Just 21 years old, Kevin Durant has already showed that he has the skills to be the face of the NBA.

He has played only three seasons and has improved greatly in each one of them. This season figures to have the Lakers as the favorite in the Western Conference with the young Thunder biting at their heels for the top spot.

Durant’s running mate, Russell Westbrook, is another bright young point guard in the NBA. Having played just two seasons, he has improved his points per game and assists per game showing signs for even more improvement.

Although most people would probably figure Durant and Westbrook to be No. 1 on this list, the top dogs are……

1 - LeBron James & Chris Bosh

5 of 5

Yes, LeBron James and Chris Bosh are young enough to be considered one of the best young duos in the NBA.

People have seen them play enough and know what they are capable of for me to not have to explain why they are considered elite players.

The main issue that people have with the team that has been formed in South Beach is team chemistry. These two have played together before, putting on shows in All Star Games and winning a Gold Medal. I understand that is not evidence enough due to the circumstances upon which those games mentioned are played.

LeBron and Bosh will be exceptional together.

They both understand that they need to mold to each others’ games if they want to win. On top of that, both guys are athletes and are not just one dimensional.

The only knock on these two players is that Bosh has never won a playoff series and LeBron was never able to will the Cavaliers to an NBA title.

The good news for both of those guys is that they are now on the same team.
