Chicago Bulls Sign Kurt Thomas To 2-Year Deal
The Bulls have been on a spending spree.
Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver, Ronnie Brewer, C.J. Watson…
And now, their most recent purchase: veteran big-man Kurt Thomas.
Who called it?
Thomas agreed to a two-year deal, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The 37-year-old 6’9 forward will be the 11th player under contract on the Bulls’ roster before they head into training camp.
Thomas will be filling the role left by Brad Miller, who signed with the Houston Rockets.
Miller was more than just the Bulls' big-man.
He was the jokester in the locker room, the guy who put some humor in the environment on and off the court. He could play the low post and even knock down the occasional three (you don’t see that from many seven-footers).
Ultimately, Miller was Joakim Noah’s mentor and close buddy.
At 34, Miller was a hot commodity and a great buy for many teams. For Noah, it was a sad revelation when Miller left, but he understands the business.
Now, Thomas has some big shoes to fill in, both as a player and teammate.
Although, Thomas does run faster up and down the court than Miller.
Thomas averaged three points and four rebounds last season with the Milwaukee Bucks. He will serve mostly as a veteran leader and insurance man for Noah and rookie Omer Asik.
The Bulls are expected to add one more guard.
Who could they buy with less than $3 million in cap space?
