It seems that a sign and trade, which would have been the avenue used to acquire Matt Barnes, is not available due to salary limitations on both sides.

So either Matt Barnes signs straight up with Toronto or it is a no go.

There would be a chance that Barnes could sign for more money somewhere else.)

Toronto might see a new addition to its roster as it has been reported that Matt Barnes has neared a deal that would see him in a Raptors uniform.

It might not happen (Barnes confirmed it on his Twitter but who knows). I hope it does.

As much as I like Sonny Weems, I just wasn't to pumped about him getting big minutes as a small forward or shooting guard.

At least not right away.

Barnes plays both.

With Barnes, the Raptors have a starter but not a plug and by that I mean someone who can give you reliable minutes but it won't make you or anyone else upset if some of those minutes are taken away by a surging bench player.

The same goes for Linas Kleiza.

Barnes and Kleiza are not the major signings Raptors fans have been waiting for but they are solid and also are winners (at least the teams they have played for).

Maybe Sonny can slash his way to a successful season like he did in Summer League, but if he can't, you can count on Barnes and Kleiza to play exactly up to their potential.

As average as that may be.
