John Wall Posts Double-Double, Wizards Roll 89-64 In Summer League Action
The game was never really close tonight, as the Wizards led the Clippers by double-digits for a majority of the evening. John Wall continued to show improvement, even from last night, as he posted his first career double-double in a Wizards uniform. Wall had 18 points on 5-of-12 shooting, dished out 10 assists, and had five steals. He also got the better of his former college teammate Eric Bledsoe. Wall did have eight turnovers tonight, but it doesn’t appear to be a huge problem. With the way his game is structured, turnovers will happen. Wall's court vision and creativity is so immense that he can sometimes get ahead of himself. After shooting just 75% from the free-throw line last season, Wall continued to improve at the charity stride tonight – making eight-of-eight. JaVale McGee posted his second consecutive double-double tonight, although it wasn’t nearly as pretty as last night’s game against the Warriors. McGee had 10 points on a sloppy 3-of-10 shooting and grabbed 12 boards. He continues to excite Wizards fans. McGee’s length could help Washington on both sides of the ball this season. He has only begun to scratch the surface in this Summer League. His blocking ability and his agility as a seven-footer is very impressive. McGee’s development of a go-to offensive low-post move and some low-post defense would be the obvious individual objectives before the season begins. Nick Young returned to the lineup tonight in what is likely his last run on the Wizards Summer League squad (four-year veteran). Young dropped 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and displayed signs of his "pure scorer" mentality. Even with Gilbert Arenas slated as the starter for the Wizards at the two-guard spot, Young can serve as a nice jolt off the bench. Rookie Trevor Booker had a quiet eight points tonight on 4-of-4 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Booker’s potential is still intriguing, as there is no denying his intensity and explosiveness. Booker will be a fun player to watch throughout the offseason – possibly fighting for a starting spot. On the LA Clippers side, it was nice to see Nik Caner-Medley play well. The former Maryland Terp scored 17 points on 4-of-9 shooting and shoveled in four rebounds. Rookie Al Farouq-Aminu scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Eric Bledsoe, John Wall's former teammate at Kentucky, scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had four assists for the Clippers. The Wizards’ next Summer League game is set for Thursday at 8 pm against the Dallas Mavericks.
