My Thoughts on Dan Gilbert's Statement to Cleveland Cavaliers Fans

First off, let me point out that I was going to put a picture of Dan Gilbert on here, but I couldn't find one. So, I put one of LeBron James and his big ol' smile. He has so many reasons to smile, too.

I’m going to give my opinions about a few of the statements he made for the fans of his team. The words of Gilbert will be in BOLD and my thoughts will be in regular font.

“As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.”

Just because he grew up in Ohio doesn’t mean he has to stay there his entire NBA career. He didn’t desert anybody.

He just chose to go to a different team where he has a better chance to win a world championship, which has been his goal since he got to the NBA. We all know he was going to have a tough time winning one if he played for the Cavs to begin with.

“This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.”

Now Mr. Gilbert, I do partially agree the one-hour show circling around his decision was not necessary. I mean he is a great NBA player, but the one-hour special was a little ridiculous.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

As it should be.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

Once again, LeBron James did not betray you people. He just made a simple decision to go to a different team. No big deal, even if his first team was based in his home state.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

What part of the team’s future is exciting? The Cavs’ future is pretty much doomed.

LeBron James finally figured out that the Cavs are not the right team to win a championship with. And once again, he didn’t betray anybody, he just moved to a different team.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER 'KING' WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank .

You can take this straight to the toilet. And that’s a big promise too, so in case it doesn’t all go down the drain at one time, bring a plunger, just in case.

There is no way the Cleveland Cavaliers will win a championship now that LeBron James has left town. LeBron has a better chance at winning two than the Cavs have of winning one.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

What part of this was selfish? You’re an idiot, Mr. Gilbert…can I call you Gilly-boy? Or, how about idiot? I like that name too.

Some people think they should go to heaven, but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

The “chosen one” nickname was a great nickname because of his great ability to play the game of basketball. But you see, he was the only one to have this great ability on his team.

There are no other decent players on the Cavaliers squad. Maybe Antawn Jamison… There was nothing disloyal about the his decision. You’re overreacting, Mr. Gilly-boy.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

I agree that this will be called the “Curse of LeBron James.” This curse will probably be directed towards the Cavaliers. And it will continue to be a curse until the Cavs win the trophy, which will not be for a very long time.

Just watch.

Oh, I’m watching. I’m watching the immature fans of Cleveland get their panties in a bunch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Ha! Not after tonight. NyQuil might do the trick.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I hear it could be raining in Cleveland for the next 10 years. Is that true? And it could be sun shining in Miami for a while…is that true, too? I bet it is.

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

Now that last part was a good part. An NBA owner’s first goal is to win a World Championship, and it looks like Mr. Gilbert is sticking to it.

Ladies and gentlemen of Northeastern Ohio: the speculation is over and the facts are real, LeBron James has made his decision. And based on his decision, I will say this:

Your nightmare has come true.

Stay classy, Ohio.
