Golden State Headed in Right Direction, But More Is Needed

kevin recinosJul 22, 2008

OK Warriors fans, I hate to break it to you all, but Marcus Williams is not the point guard who will start on this team. Not by a mile. At least I don't think he should.

The kid is shooting at 39 percent from the field and 39 percent from three-point range. The latter is nice, but it's not what will lead this team to the promise land this year, which should be the second round. He has four assists in 16 minute avg., so that is a nice thing to see, but this guy is coming off of the bench. He has to.

Don't believe that this is going to be the team you go into the season with, Warrior fan, because Mully is going to pull more strings. Word is that he will try to make another move, maybe bring in another veteran point guard, and also try to math the offer sheet for Forward Kelenna Azibuke.

The following should be, in my opinion, the starting five come November:

C—Andris Biedrins

PF—Stephen Jackson

SF—Corey Maggette

SG—Monta Elis

PG—I think they should trade one of the forwards they have for a guy like Kirk Hinrich. If not, then just get Stephon Marbury, pray he's going to be good again, and just run.

On the bench, you'll have Azibuke, Randolph, and Wright, or as I call them, the Chopsticks. You also have CJ Watson along with Marcus Williams. That is a formidable second line. This kind of lineup and team roster setup would help them be at least a six in the West. 50-55 wins to be exact.

Now wouldn't that be nice Warriors fans? A first round date with San Antonio or Dallas (Utah would probably be two), and then you can beat a Texas team and head on into the next round?

This team won't win a title until at least 2010-2011, and that's being nice. But this year, they have a chance to do something special. Don't waste it Chris Mullin. With the voice of all Warrior fans, "Don't do anything stupid."
