Jerami Grant on Re-Signing with Thunder: 'I Definitely Think It's a Possibility'

Alec NathanMay 18, 2018

Jerami Grant believes he has a good chance of returning to the Oklahoma City Thunder next season as he prepares to enter free agency this summer.

"I definitely think it's a possibility," Grant told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski Friday at the NBA combine in Chicago. "I know it's a lot of moving pieces but I definitely think it's a great possibility me being there. There's a lot of things they have to figure out but I think it’s a good chance."

Grant, 24, joined the Thunder in November 2016 following a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers

Since then, he's served as a rotational regular for head coach Billy Donovan.

In 81 games last season, Grant averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks while shooting 53.5 percent from the field. However, he knocked down just 29.1 percent of his three-point attempts a year after draining 37.1 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.

Grant also offered the Thunder a big boost come playoff time. During his 133 minutes on the floor against the Utah Jazz, the Thunder outscored opponents by a team-best 8.9 points per 100 possessions (minimum 50 minutes played), per NBA.com's lineup data

The issue for both sides if that the Thunder won't have much free cash flow if Carmelo Anthony opts into his $27.9 million player option for next season. Assuming that's the case, Grant will likely have to field offers elsewhere if he wants to maximize his earning potential on the open market.
