NBA Sets 2017-18 Salary Cap at $99,093,000
The NBA salary cap is increasing for the 2017-18 season.
Shams Charania of The Vertical reported Friday the league set the salary cap for the upcoming campaign at $99,093,000. It goes into effect Saturday.
The NBA's salary cap was $94.143 million for the 2016-17 season, per an official league release.

Marc J. Spears of ESPN's The Undefeated shared the official release from the league, which said the minimum salary—which is set at 90 percent of the salary cap—was $89.184 million. It also provided details on various mid-level exceptions:
Chris Mannix of The Vertical noted the luxury tax was set at $119.3 million.
This comes after Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reported on June 22 the NBA told its teams in a memo the projected salary cap would be $99 million, which was approximately $2 million less than previous estimates.
"The drop was caused by the number of playoff games being fewer than expected, as the recent postseason was dominated by lopsided series that were shorter than anticipated," Windhorst wrote.
The Golden State Warriors lost a single game throughout the postseason on the way to the title, while the Cleveland Cavaliers dropped just one contest before the NBA Finals. The two dominant teams combined to shorten the playoffs and impact the salary cap.
Despite the lower salary cap than was once projected, it is still higher than last year's and comes in right as teams are officially allowed to talk to free agents (Saturday at 12:01 a.m. ET). Windhorst pointed to the "massive growth" caused by television revenues that has allowed the cap to continue rising.
