LAPD Continues to Investigate Rose

Monday, Oct. 24

Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News spoke to a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department who said the criminal investigation into Rose is active despite not being found liable during his civil trial.

Rose Responds to LAPD Letter

Wednesday, Sept. 28

Dan Werly of the White Bronco shared Rose's response to the Los Angeles Police Department, which says the letter "simply repeats what the parties have known since December."

On Monday, Werly obtained a letter from the LAPD that looked to "clarify any misconception" Rose was not under criminal investigation. The woman who accused Rose, who has been identified as Jane Doe in a civil suit, has asked to remain anonymous amid the investigation.

Rose Comments on Investigation

Monday, Sept. 26

Rose spoke with reporters on Monday, saying it was the first he'd heard of the investigation and that "it's not true. I'll be proven innocent."

"I felt like I didn't do anything wrong," Rose added. The point guard also said he's "not worried" about the investigation and that if he does have to miss time, "it's a part of it."

Investigation Stemmed from Civil Trial Between Rose and Alleged Victim

Rose's accuser filed a lawsuit in August 2015 against Rose, Randall Hampton and Ryan Allen, claiming she was gang-raped by the men in 2013. On Oct. 29, Rose was found not liable by a California jury.

According to her original lawsuit, the woman said she and Rose had a consensual relationship but that she did not consent to sex on the night in question. She said she was drugged while at a party at Rose's house and was later raped by the three men after returning to her apartment that night. She is asking for $21.5 million in damages.

Rose has denied all allegations, claiming their encounter was consensual. The woman detailed her thoughts to Janie McCauley of the Associated Press:

"

As soon as I woke up, I was dressed, I had my dress on from the previous night and I never go to sleep with what I'm wearing. I always prepare myself first to go to sleep. So I had the dress and it was up on my neck and I felt very wet and slippery. There was lubricant all over my bed and on my legs. Everything was tossed in my bed. There was a condom wrapper and a closed one not used.

That was just shocking to see all that, almost like I didn't want to believe it.

"

Rose's attorneys took aggressive tack in civil court, accusing Ms. Doe of attempted extortion.

"This is not a rape case. It's pure and simple extortion by a plaintiff who wants to hide behind the cloak of anonymity while seeking millions in damages from a celebrity with whom she was in a long-term, nonexclusive consensual sexual relationship," the filing said, per McCauley.

Rose's lawyers had previously "vehemently denied" the point guard was facing potential criminal charges, per Werly.

"We're going to let the process work itself out," Knicks president Phil Jackson said on Sept. 23. "We're not concerned. We understand it's a serious subject we're talking about. This has to be done outside our control. It's something we can't control. Derrick has expressed he's not concerned about it. He's aware of it, but it's not keeping him up at night."
