Anthony Tolliver Reportedly to Sign with Kings: Contract Details, Reaction

Free-agent veteran forward Anthony Tolliver has reportedly signed a two-year contract with the Sacramento Kings, Shams Charania of The Vertical reported Saturday.  

Sam Amick of USA Today confirmed Charania's report and added that the contract is worth $16 million with $2 million guaranteed in the second year of the deal. 

Over his eight-year career, Tolliver has been a reserve player with eight different teams. Last year, he averaged 5.3 points per game with the Detroit Pistons.

He's averaged more than 6.7 points per game just once in the NBA, and it was early in his career when he put up 12.3 points per night in 44 games with the Golden State Warriors in 2009-10. 

While his numbers leave something to be desired, Tolliver made his name in the league as a big man capable of stretching the floor. 

At 6'8", 240 pounds, he can be physical near the basket, but he's made his biggest impact by shooting the three. 

In each of the past three seasons, he's held a three-point shooting mark of 36 percent or better. Last year, he allowed the Pistons to stretch the floor when Tobias Harris or Stanley Johnson was getting a rest:

Now with the Kings, Tolliver could team up well with fellow reserve forward Omri Casspi, who was one of Sacramento's best three-point shooters at 40.9 percent. 

The pair will provide relief for Rudy Gay and Willie Cauley-Stein and give Sacramento's offense a different look. Cauley-Stein attempted just two three-pointers last season, while Gay hit 74. In about 1,000 fewer minutes, Tolliver hit 24 more threes than Gay. 

Tolliver's acquisition isn't going to turn the Kings into a contender in the Western Conference, but he will provide quality minutes off the bench.
