Jazz GM Comments on Hayward Trade Rumors

Saturday, June 25

Jody Genessy of the Deseret News noted Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey stated Friday that Hayward has not demanded a trade. "In a very odd way," Lindsey said, "I'm pleased that that (rumor) was put out."

Jazz Reportedly Unwilling to Deal Hayward

Wednesday, June 22

According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, the Boston Celtics attempted to acquire Hayward in a deal involving the No. 3 overall selection in Thursday's NBA draft. The Phoenix Suns tried to do the same with Nos. 4 and 13, but Utah reportedly told other teams he is not available.

Brian Geltzeiler of HoopsCritic.com reported Wednesday morning the Jazz were looking to trade the 26-year-old swingman despite Stein's report.

Per Genessy, however, a source indicated there is no imminent split coming between the Jazz and Hayward.

Genessy also provided evidence that Hayward is seemingly committed to helping the Jazz become a winning organization moving forward:

Hayward Developing into Cornerstone of Jazz Franchise

Hayward has made progress in each of his six NBA seasons, and he is coming off arguably the best campaign of his career.

He put up a personal-best 19.7 points per game last season to go along with five rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals as well.

The Butler product is quickly approaching All-Star status, and his continued improvement means he could be in play for a max contract when he hits free agency. Hayward is among the NBA's top under-the-radar stars and on the verge of breaking out for Utah, so it was difficult to believe the Jazz would trade him.
