Wolves Reportedly 'Most Aggressive' for Durant amid Heat, Rockets, Spurs Trade Rumors
The Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly have been the "most aggressive" team pursuing Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant despite his reported desire to be moved to the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
"From what I understand, the three teams on Durant's list, Miami, San Antonio, and Houston, have not made offers that have gotten Phoenix excited to this point," Windhorst reported Monday on Get Up. "To this point is very important. Minnesota was aggressive at midseason, and Minnesota, from what I understand, has been the most aggressive team in these trade talks. I do think Toronto is lurking out there. Toronto is making the No. 9 pick in this draft, in addition to some players, available in multiple different scenarios. And I think the LA Clippers are lurking out there as well. But I would say right now, if I had to put a favorite, I definitely think Minnesota is the team that's been most aggressive."
ESPN's Shams Charania reported Saturday that the Miami, Houston and San Antonio are considered to be Durant's "preferred trade destinations out of Phoenix."
That doesn't necessarily mean that he'll end up in one of those three locations, though.
Per Charania, the Suns have "six to eight seriously interested teams" and will move Durant to the highest bidder regardless of his desire to join certain organizations.
The Timberwolves reportedly made a push to acquire the 15-time All-Star ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline, although an agreement between both teams was never reached.
Minnesota has advanced to the Western Conference Finals in both 2024 and 2025, but hasn't been able to clinch a spot in the NBA Finals due to the lack of a consistent No. 2 scoring option alongside Anthony Edwards.
Edwards averaged 23.0 points per game during the Timberwolves' five-game defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder in their latest appearance in the conference finals, but none of his teammates recorded at least 18 points per game throughout the series.
Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 43.0 percent from three-point territory during his 2024-25 campaign with Phoenix. Edwards also hasn't been shy about calling the two-time champion his favorite player.
Durant is set to earn $54.7 million for the 2025-26 season before hitting unrestricted free agency in 2026.
As Phoenix continues to explore trades for Durant, Minnesota reportedly remains heavily interested in a swap.
