"We see him as 'Shaq-like' but never having been given the opportunity," Cuban told KTCK-AM 1310 last Friday regarding DeAndre Jordan's role with the Mavericks (via Fox Sports). "We told him if he came to the Mavs, he would be a focal point. He would grow into being a franchise player."
Cuban also discussed Wes Matthews' status as he continues to recover from an Achilles injury that ended his season, per KTCK-AM 1310 (via Fox Sports Southwest): "We're not putting a timetable on it. Like I told Wes, if he opens up with camp, great. If he starts the season, great. If he misses 30 games, great. I don't care because we didn't sign him for this year."
Fines are nothing new for Cuban, who gave approximately $2 million to the league for various actions during the David Stern era.
Per ESPN.com's Tim MacMahon, this is uncharted water for new NBA commissioner Adam Silver:
DeAndre Jordan reportedly agreed to a four-year, $80 million deal with the Mavericks, per Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears. Wes Matthews also agreed to a four-year pact with Dallas, per David Aldridge of NBA.com.
However, since the NBA has a moratorium on signing deals before July 9, the deals don't become official until that time and teams aren't allowed to publicly discuss them.
Given the way Cuban has taken his fines from Stern in the past, not to mention the excitement Dallas' owner will feel adding more talent to his roster when the deals can become official, it's not likely the $25,000 fine will cause him to lose much sleep at night.
