Draymond Green Re-Signs with Golden State Warriors
Draymond Green had been one of the NBA's biggest bargains in his three seasons with the Golden State Warriors.
That changed today, as the restricted free agent re-signed with the Golden State Warriors. Green announced the decision on Bleacher Report's Uninterrupted:
Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports noted the deal is worth $85 million over five years.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports had previously reported Green and the Warriors had broken off contract talks after meeting at the start of the free-agency window.
Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group reported Green "loves the franchise, his teammates and the area too much to leave. Life after a championship only confirmed to him how much he wanted to stay. He is even willing to take less than the maximum to keep the core together long term."
Green has gotten better offensively in each of his three NBA seasons, going from an average of 2.9 points per game as a rookie to 11.7 last season. He's an excellent defensive player, as shown by his 10.6 defensive win shares in three seasons, per Basketball-Reference.com.
Finding a lockdown defender who has improved his offensive game from year to year is an NBA rarity. Green has earned his huge raise.
