On June 30, Chris Broussard of ESPN reported the Kings were looking into signing Lin this offseason. On June 28, Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders noted Lin could hear from the team that briefly made him a superstar in 2011-12, the New York Knicks.
With the Knicks, Lin became a sensation even though he only appeared in 35 of 66 games that season. He averaged a career-high 14.6 points and 6.2 assists per game.
Lin has never been able to match the short superstardom he found in New York, but the 26-year-old has averaged more than 11 points per game in each of the past three seasons. He shot a career-best 36.9 percent from three-point range with the Lakers.
Even though Lin is listed as a point guard, he's better served in a situation that allows him to shoot rather than distribute. He will have that chance either as Kemba Walker's primary backup or at shooting guard for a Hornets team that currently doesn't have much scoring punch at the two.
Lin isn't a big splash for Charlotte, but he will add quality depth for a team looking to ascend in 2016.
