The six-time NBA champion's procedure took place on his 68th birthday, and per a statement released by UCLA Health, the Hall of Famer is very thankful that the surgery was deemed a success:
"At this time, Abdul-Jabbar would like to thank his surgical team and the medical staff at UCLA, his alma mater, for the excellent care he has received. He is looking forward to getting back to his normal activities soon.
He asks that you keep him in your thoughts and, most importantly, cherish and live each day to its fullest.

The former UCLA star is undoubtedly one of the greatest players in history, as he left an indelible mark on the Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and the sport of basketball as a whole.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995, the 19-time All-Star is the NBA's all-time leading scorer with 38,387 points.Ā With career averages of over 24 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks per game, Abdul-Jabbar is arguably the best center to ever play.
He continues to be an excellent ambassador for the NBA, and he will have no shortage of support in his recovery.
