Stephen Curry Wins 2015 NBA 3 Point Contest: Scores, Highlights and Reaction

Tyler ConwayFeb 14, 2015

At least for one night, Stephen Curry won the battle of the Splash Brothers. Curry scored 27 points, including a stretch of 13 straight makes, to defeat teammate Klay Thompson and Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving and take the 2015 Foot Locker Three-Point Contest.

Shooting after Irving put up 17 points to start the final round, Curry took the wind out of Thompson's sails with a jaw-dropping display of shooting. The Warriors star hit 13 straight shots on the third, fourth and fifth racks, atoning from a shaky start to leave the Barclays Center roaring in appreciation. Thompson, with the pressure mounting following Curry's barrage, finished in third place with 14 points.

Perhaps the MVP of the NBA's first half, Curry is the first Golden State player to win the three-point contest. The win also helps him atone for his first three appearances in the contest, when perhaps the league's purest shooter went home empty-handed in a series of disappointing performances.

Billed as arguably the finest three-point shootout field in history, Curry's final round capped a competition that lived up to the billing. Every participant save James Harden scored at least 18 points in the first round, which featured favorites falling by the wayside.

Kyle Korver, on his way to the finest shooting season in NBA history, wound up well out of contention with 18 points. The Atlanta Hawks All-Star struggled a bit early and failed to get totally into a rhythm throughout his run. He tied with defending champion Marco Belinelli and Clippers guard J.J. Redick for fifth place.

Redick would have perhaps challenged Wesley Matthews for fourth place had he not hit a few shots with his foot on the line. Officials waved off a number of Redick's shots in his fourth rack because his front plant foot was touching the line.

Curry and Irving each advanced with 22 apiece, while Thompson put himself in the cleanup spot for the final round with a solid 23-point performance. Following that first round, it looked like Thompson was coming for his teammate's throne.

In the end, though, Curry lost the first-round battle but won the war.
