Bryant Injures Shoulder, To Undergo MRI
Wednesday, Jan. 21
These days, Kobe Bryant just can't seem to stay on the court. The 36-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star has now suffered another injury that could keep him out of action for the foreseeable future. He left the team's 96-80 road loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night with just over a minute remaining.
Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding had the news, via Lakers coach Byron Scott:
Bill Oram of the Orange County Register noted that it's a shoulder injury.
Missing time is nothing new for Bryant, who is now in his 19th season. He participated in just six games in 2013-14 and already admitted in December that he wasn't likely to play beyond next year, per Oram:
So yes, Bryant's career is coming to a close. But for a poor Lakers team lacking any complementary superstars, the loss of Bryant for any period of time is devastating. And for NBA fans, seeing the slow decline of one of the game's greatest players is tough to watch as well.
