Wroten Injures Knee vs. Hawks
Tuesday, Jan. 13
As the Philadelphia 76ers' long-term rebuilding plan drags on, the team may have to cope with the short-term absence of Tony Wroten.
The 21-year-old combo guard injured his right knee in a game against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, according to Philly's director of public relations, Michael Preston:
Considering the Sixers' abysmal start to the 2014-15 season, it's been hard for any one player to emerge and really shine. With that said, Wroten's putting up career highs in points (17.1) and assists (5.3) this years and has consistently been one of Philly's best players.
When Michael Carter-Williams missed time early in the season, Wroten filled in well at the point. Then, upon Carter-Williams' return, he rather seamlessly shifted to the 2-guard.
This year, and likely the next few years as well, are all about the 76ers establishing who their young stars are and figuring out which players they need to build around. While Wroten's unlikely to be a franchise cornerstone on same level as MCW, Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid, he should occupy a place on the roster should Philly become a bona fide contender.
