Darko Milicic Disqualified from 1st Kickboxing Match After Gashing Shin

Dan CarsonDec 19, 2014

After bottoming out and leaving the league, former NBA superbust Darko Milicic opted to seek redemption as a professional kickboxer.

The former second overall NBA draft pick fought in his first match Thursday night—an overhyped showdown between Milicic and some guy named Radovan Radojcin. It did not end well for Milicic.

The 7’0” former Detroit Piston managed to land a few semisolid licks on his much smaller opponent, but he was ruled ineligible early in the second round when a nasty, super gross gash opened up his left shin.

YouTube user TheMaless uploaded video of the fight (trainers treat Milicic's leg at the 3:12 mark).

Warning: Footage of the aforementioned super gross wound is super gross.

Milicic’s trainers attempted to stop the bleeding with jelly between the first and the second rounds, but the persistent drizzling of Darko-blood on the canvas gave the official no choice. He stopped the fight and awarded Radojcin the victory.

To Radojcin’s credit, he earned the victory. He worked Milicic’s left leg early and often, hacking at his opponent’s foundation like a lumberjack.

The strategy worked, and now, Milicic could be on his way to joining the ranks of the rare, two-sport disappointments. Some guys cannot catch a break.
