Mark Cuban Tried to Get Kevin Garnett
File this one under the Funny Stories Department...
I found this on Dallasblog.com through IheartKG.com.
Mark Cuban talks about being close to getting Garnett on Draft Day:
"CUBAN ON KEVIN GARNETT
āWe went after KG hard. But ā and maybe I shouldnāt say this ā dealing with Minnesota was very tough. They didnāt want to trade him but they knew they had to. I guess weāve been on the other side of that, with guys we had to trade that we didnāt want to trade....
āWe thought we were very close on Draft Day. We were waiting for the phone to ring, we were waiting on a call from Minnesota. It was that close. But it never turned out that way. Our goal was to try to make a deal that wouldnāt hurt our roster as it was. You donāt want to go out there with Dirk and KG and three guys named Moe. Youāve got to have a team. We tried, but in the end, we didnāt offer as good a deal as Boston.
"
Thereās more, but thatās most of it.
Mark...you tried to make a deal that āwouldnāt hurt our roster as it wasā?
Okay. And the Tooth Fairy still stops, too.
Minnesota was very tough?
What?! They actually wanted players who could play?Ā Ā Ā
Why those #$*&@%!!
Even if Dallas had offered multiple draft picks (they apparently didn't offer any important roster players), they would all be in their 20s for the foreseeable future.
Keep waiting for that phone to ring, Mark. When it does...it will be theĀ Amusing Trade OffersĀ Committee calling to tell you that you won first place in theirĀ Outlandish KG Trade Offerings Contest.
Your prize?
A yearās subscription to the Cuban Mavericks Blog.
Theyāre trying not to "hurt" their prize money.
I guess thatās how rich people get and stay richātry to get something for nothing.
Iād like to know what the Mavericks actually offered, though. Wouldnāt you?
Boston did better. They have Pierce, Allen, Garnett...and only two guys named Moe.Ā
Actually, theyāre not namedĀ Moe either. ItāsĀ Powe...andĀ Po-sey.
So there, Mark.Ā
