Watch NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Teach Brittney Griner Iconic Sky Hook

Dan FavaleJun 8, 2018

Brittney Griner's offensive arsenal is officially a lot more Kareem Abdul-Jabbar-esque.

Following a Phoenix Mercury practice, the 7'2" NBA Hall of Famer was seen teaching the 6'8" Griner his trademark shot.

Per ESPN.com, the sky-hook lesson was put together by Mercury vice president Ann Meyers Drysdale, who contacted Abdul-Jabbar through the NBA office to see if he'd be interested in speaking with the team and then working with Griner.

He accepted, and from now on Griner's offensive sets will never be the same.

"I went to legend school today, and it was awesome," Griner said afterward.

Though the instructional lesson was brief, Griner made a concerted effort to digest everything the NBA Hall of Famer was showing her. She later vowed to incorporate some hook shots into her offensive repertoire.

"You'll see some hooks, but to do a true skyhook, that's going to take a while to get it down perfect," she said. "But you'll definitely see once I get a feel. I definitely want to get that in there."

Since Griner is already one of the most highly touted prospects in WNBA history, mastering Abdul-Jabbar's sky hook would only make her even more menacing.

The Mercury drafted Griner No. 1 overall in the 2013 draft, and she is expected to go down as one of the most dominant players to ever grace the WNBA hardwood. She's even garnered some NBA interest as well.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban gave Griner the ultimate endorsement, admitting that he would consider selecting her in the second round of the 2013 NBA draft. Joking or not, his words paid homage to one of the most unique female talents we have ever seen.

And so did Abdul-Jabbar. He was left singing Griner's praises after their session together.

"She's a very talented athlete," he said. "She's not just tall, she has some skills. She runs the court very well, she's active. I think she's going to have a great career."

Sky hook now in hand, her professional tenure stands to be even greater than initially expected.
