5 NBA Stars Every Fan Would Love to Hang Out with
NBA stars are known to show off their talent on the court, but there are a few stars that can transcend their presence away from it as well. Fans get a taste of the off-court activities via social media websites (most notably, Twitter), but they don’t get the backstage pass to their lives.
There are a lot of stars who do the minimum or try too hard to satisfy everybody. These stars are trying to make up for deficiencies in their game or in their personal lives.
However, there are a few NBA stars that really stand out, whether it is with their personality or their comedic abilities. NBA fans are drawn to the people who always leave them wanting a taste for more.
Dirk Nowitzki is an NBA Champion, a big man who can shoot from the perimeter and an entertaining figure off the court. He is known for a variety of things off the court: most recently his rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA.”
However, he is probably best known for sneaking behind the microphone for a couple of Mavericks games where he did not have a chance to play. He made his most famous call after watching an alley-oop between Jason Terry and Brandon Wright, where he uttered the words, “oh my God! Shut it down! Let’s go home! That is a wrap!”
In addition to his announcing talents, Dirk had been focusing on perfecting his Hans Gruber impersonations (“Die Hard”). While he was shooting around while injured, he busted out a few classic Gruber lines. He is definitely a face that fans would love to spend time around.
Blake Griffin is primarily known for his aerial assaults on the rim and his Kia commercials. In his commercials, Blake exudes his personality and shows a preview of who he is off the court.
Griffin is also known for his humor via his twitter account (@blakegriffin32) and he made The 140 Best Twitter Feeds of 2013 via Time.com. He is also notorious for his totally dry sense of humor and comedic timing.
He tries to hone his craft by producing quality over quantity with various topics that include sports, his adventures on the road and pop culture. He was also hired by Will Ferrell’s funnyordie.com, and one of his better clips features Blake with Lil’ Blake that has a “Chucky” sort of feel.
Whether you like him as a player, Griffin demonstrates that he will have an extended shelf life when his professional career is over.
The New York Knicks are currently the hottest team on the planet, and Carmelo Anthony is their biggest star. He has been dominant on the court, but he has also been hitting it hard in the public scene.
Melo made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and while promoting his new line of Nike Jordan Melo M9s, he supplied a picture of himself having tea in London. He likes tea, but he always wanted a picture of himself reading the Financial Times. As he comments to Fallon, Melo was reading the daily for the very first time.
He also visited MadameTussauds Hollywood and surprised the paying customers. As seen in the video above, Melo poses like he is a wax figure and has a little fun with people as they walked by him. The customers and Melo were great sports about it.
Kevin Durant is one of the most prolific scorers in the game and is the three-time defending scoring champion for the Oklahoma City Thunder. On and off the court, KD is a calm, cool and collected star.
He has been in numerous ads for various products, but he stands out with fans for putting out the extra effort. When a fan made a half-court shot for $20,000 on March 24, KD came over and tackled the contestant with a huge hug.
During last year’s NBA lockout, he was looking to play some football and used his Twitter account to ask the public. He scored a gig with Sigma Nu, where KD threw for four TDs and picked off three balls on defense.
His biggest test in the future will be during this season’s playoffs, where he will try to lead the Thunder to their first NBA championship. In the meantime, he can stay cool as one of the NBA fans’ favorites.
LeBron James has all of the goods: an NBA Championship, a team that looks like it is on the way to back-to-back titles and the ability to dominate like no other player since Michael Jordan this season.
In the time between using his aerial exploits and big body to win games, the Miami Heat star successfully extends his presence off the court. Before we get to that point, LeBron is entertaining fans even when he is on the court, as shown by the clip above.
Fans would love to live the posh lifestyle of South Beach and never have to wait in line for the most exorbitant clubs and restaurants. Lebron has made himself accessible, even before taking a lot of heat for “The Decision.”
