It looks like the Minnesota Timberwolves will be snakebitten all season by Kevin Love's right hand, as  the superstar forward's recovery isn't going as well as expected.

UPDATE: Saturday, Mar. 16, at 3:45 p.m. ET by Matt Fitzgerald

The news on Love has gotten worse for the Timberwolves, as he may not take the court again this season. Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune has the latest on the star forward.

...Love knows the season is ticking away on him and he said before Friday’s game at Houston there’s a chance he won’t play again this season.

“I’d say that has crossed my mind, but as far as making a decision, I haven’t made that decision yet,” he said.

Exciting news for Timberwolves fans as they should get to see Kevin Love play before the end of the season as the star forward hopes to play in 15-20 games to end the season, according to the Associated Press via ESPN.

Love said he plans to meet with doctors for another examination on his surgically repaired hand toward the end of the first week in March or the beginning of the second week. He's hoping to return with 15-20 games remaining in the season to try and put a positive end to a most disappointing year.

According to the team's official public relations Twitter feed, the star forward left midway through the third quarter of Minnesota's Jan. 3 game against the Denver Nuggets with an injury and was being checked out by trainers:

The report also mentions that Love is due to return in March, right around the original 8-10 week timetable set out by doctors at the time of his injury.

This certainly isn't an easy time to be a Minnesota fan, but hopefully this good injury news about the team's All-Star forward hopes to brighten your day a little more until his late-season return.

UPDATE: Monday, Jan. 14 at 3:25 p.m. ET by Adam Wells

After having his timetable determined, Love can start to plan a date when he will be able to return to the Timberwolves.

According to the Timberwolves' official Twitter, Love's surgery will take place on Tuesday and he will be back in around two months if everything goes well.

#Twolves' @kevinlove to undergo surgery to repair 3rd & 4th metacarpal in right hand tomorrow in New York. He is expected to miss 8-10 wks.

Even though they are hanging around near the bottom of the playoff race in the western conference, the Timberwolves are starting to show signs of wear and tear without Love. They have lost their last three games and eight of their last 11.

UPDATE: Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 3:35 p.m. ET by Ben Chodos

The Timberwolves now have a time frame regarding Kevin Love's return.

Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears reported the following on Love's hand injury:

Wolves forward Kevin Love expected to be out 8-10 weeks after having hand surgery on his right hand next week, a source tells Y! Sports.

Minnesota (16-15) faces an uphill climb trying to stay in playoff contention without their franchise centerpiece and with a limited Ricky Rubio.

UPDATE: Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 9:42 a.m. ET

Awful news for Minnesota fans and fantasy owners. Kevin Love is expected to be out a "number of weeks," according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Kent Youngblood:

Timberwolves forward Kevin Love had his broken right hand examined by a local doctor Monday. But a final decision on treatment -- and a timetable for his return -- won't be available until Love's New York City-based specialist is consulted.

David Kahn, the Wolves president of basketball operations, said it's safe to assume that Love would be out for "a number of weeks."

'He'll still confer with the doctor in New York,' Kahn said. 'We don't have a game plan yet.'

No decision has been made on whether surgery is an option; the team sent a copy of Love's magnetic resonance imaging exam to New York hand specialist Dr. Andy Weiland on Monday morning.

UPDATE: Saturday, Jan. 5 at 8:20 p.m. ET by Ben Chodos

The news regarding Kevin Love's hand is exactly what Timberwolves fans do not want to hear.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune's Jerry Zgoda reported the following via Twitter:

BREAKING: Love has re-fractured the third metacarpal on his right hand.

— Jerry Zgoda(@JerryZgoda) January 5, 2013

Timberwolves PR added:

#Twolves Kevin Love will be examined by hand specialist Dr. Andy Weiland in NYC later this week and more info will be provided after visit.

— Timberwolves PR (@Twolves_PR) January 5, 2013

Love's health is vital to Minnesota's success this season, and the team's prospects will not look promising if Love is once again out for a long period of time.

UPDATE: Saturday, Jan. 5 at 12:30 p.m. ET by Ethan Grant

Minnesota continues to struggle with injuries to its star players. Per this report from the team's official Twitter handle, Love and Ricky Rubio are out tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers:

Love and Rubio will not play tonight against the Blazers. #Twolves

— MN Timberwolves (@MNTimberwolves) January 5, 2013

After missing the remainder of the game against the Nuggets, it's no surprise that the team is choosing to keep Love on ice for another night—even less surprising if you factor in his early-season wrist injury.

We'll continue to monitor this situation as more news becomes available, but for now, look for Love to work on getting fully healthy and making sure this finger injury doesn't turn into something more serious down the line.

UPDATE: Friday, Jan. 4 at 12:25 a.m. ET

Star Tribune reporter Jerry Zgoda had this to say about Love's hand injury:

Love had xrays taken, they were negative. sounds like he sprained third metatarsal, one of the bones he broke in October.

UPDATE: Thursday, Jan. 3 at 11:29 p.m. ET by Tyler Conway

Though Love wound up sitting out the rest of the game, he reportedly told Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman that he could have returned. However, the caveat was that the forward was unsure of whether he could shoot, per the team's official public relations Twitter feed:

Adelman said that Love told him he could have played, but wasn't sure if he could shoot. #Twolves

— Timberwolves PR (@Twolves_PR) January 4, 2013

---End of Update---

Per the Nuggets' official Twitter feed, the injury is being deemed a sprained finger, and he's questionable to return to Thursday's game:

Timberwolves F Kevin Love has a sprained finger and is questionable to return. He had 12 pts and 17 rebounds before leaving game.

— Denver Nuggets (@denvernuggets) January 4, 2013

According to Jim Souhan of the Star Tribune, Love jammed his hand on a member of the Nuggets:

Kevin Love hurts right hand again, jamming it on opponent. Heads to locker room. Wolves remain, yes, cursed.

— Jim Souhan (@SouhanStrib) January 4, 2013

After noticeably grimacing in pain, he was substituted out of the game with 4:15 remaining in the third quarter and Denver ahead 66-56. Love had 12 points and 17 rebounds in 24 minutes of play upon his exit.

The Timberwolves star's finger injury comes on the same hand that kept him out of Minnesota's first nine games. Though Love has shown flashes of his former brilliance since returning, it's become evident that the hand is not fully recovered.

Coming into the contest, Love was averaging 18.7 points and 13.8 rebounds per game. However, he's shooting an appallingly low 35.4 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from beyond the arc in 17 games. Those numbers are down from 44.8 and 37.2, respectively, from Love’s brilliant ascent to superstardom in 2011-12.

Though it's unclear how serious the latest setback is, Minnesota can ill afford to lose Love for long. The team is right on the fringes of the Western Conference playoff race, and any extended absence could be crippling.

Be sure to check back in as we give you the latest updates on Kevin Love's sprained finger and his possible return date.
