Anthony Davis: Why the Kentucky Star Is the Next Tim Duncan of the NBA
Anthony Davis is the next Tim Duncan.
The Kentucky forward has been compared to Portland Trailblazers center Marcus Camby, a claim that even Camby agrees with.
No offense to Camby, but Davis has potential to be even better. In fact, he has a chance to be one of the greatest forwards this game has ever seen. His performance during the NCAA tournament should have given a clear indication of what kind of potential he has.
However, if you are still skeptical, just take a look at some of his stats compared to Duncan.
Davis only played one year at Kentucky but had an excellent year. He won Player of the Year as well as Defensive Player of the Year. The award was well deserved as he averaged 14.2 points a game along with 10.4 rebounds. But it was his sensational blocks throughout the season that made Davis stand out throughout the season. He averaged 4.7 blocks a game, which is an incredible number.
Duncan, who went to Wake Forest, had similar numbers through his four-year career in college. He averaged 16.5 and 12.3 rebounds a game. Like Davis, Duncan was also a great defensive player. He averaged 3.8 blocks a game.
Both players are not just the same with their stats. They both have the same body frame and are only separated by one inch in height.
Davis is considered the only sure thing in this year's draft. Considering what he has done already in his short basketball career it's hard not to argue that. Finding a big man in the NBA is a hard thing to do. There are a handful of big men in the league who can average a double-double for a season.
Davis is one of those players. His defense alone will help him gather at least 10 rebounds a game. He will most likely have to build his frame to get more strength at the next level. But his feel for the game will be good enough to make him an all-star his rookie season.
After a few years in the league, when Duncan will be most likely retired, Davis will be making his mark in the NBA as one of the best players in the league and best defensive player in the game.
