Fantasy Football QB Season Rankings at Week 8: Roethlisberger Up, Favre Down

Nick CaronOct 29, 2010

Not much movement at the top this week but Ben Roethlisberger continues his rise up the chart, up two spots this week to 8th among quarterbacks. Though he hasn’t had much time working with the first team offense, Roethlisberger has once again established himself as a viable option as a starting fantasy quarterback.

While the Steelers remain a run-heavy and defense-oriented team, the passing game has certainly taken a noticeable step in the right direction since Ben’s return.

After suffering a fractured clavicle on Monday night, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is expected to miss the majority of the rest of the season and may be shut down for the rest of the year depending on how the Cowboys perform without him.

Romo was a fantasy stud through the first half of the season and was certainly an every-week starter for most of his owners. The injury makes way for veteran backup quarterback Jon Kitna to step in. Kitna sits at 30th among quarterbacks and would probably be lower if he wasn’t on such a high-powered offense.

Another injured quarterback is Minnesota’s Brett Favre. Favre’s ankle injury has his status for this week’s game in question, but more importantly begs the question of how long he will be able to play through the pain. Not only that, but there is growing concern that Favre just doesn’t “have it” this year, and he hasn’t been able to get things going consistently enough to be much of a fantasy factor so far in 2010.

With Randy Moss and Percy Harvin on the roster and Sidney Rice expected to be back soon, there is still hope—but it’s dwindling. Favre drops to 21st among quarterbacks.

Wow, Ryan Fitzpatrick—where did you come from? Three straight games of 20-plus fantasy points has a lot of eyes going to the Buffalo Bills quarterback who many wrote off before he even had a chance.

Buffalo isn’t winning games, but they are losing them by enough that Fitzpatrick is throwing the ball many, many times. Add in the fact that he can occasionally run the ball for a point or two and you have a recipe for the perfect bye week replacement or even a potential replacement for Tony Romo.
