2012 NFL Draft Order: Patriots and Teams That Will Trade out of First Round
The 2012 NFL Draft will see trades on draft day just like every year. Some teams trade up and others trade down for a plethora of reasons. Here are three of those teams you can expect to trade out of the first round.
If Tim Tebow is the starter in Denver next season he will need weapons in his arsenal. They could reach for Stanford tight end Coby Fleener with the No. 25 pick or they can try to get him in the second round while picking up another weapon at wide receiver.

This may be their best option if they don’t want to trade up to get a better prospect. Anytime you can add multiple position players to a team that lacks offensive fire power you have to pull the trigger.
Trading up or down in the NFL Draft really comes down to knowing which player you want to take and where. If the Giants feel like the player they are looking at will slide to the early parts of the second round, there would be no reason for the Giants not to trade down to grab another pick.
Many teams need help in many areas so a squad like the Giants could possibly add to their talent pool by quantity over one possible quality in the first round. They have the offense but could use a future running back, tight end and help in their secondary to solidify their holes.
Trading their first-round pick would give them more opportunities to fill whatever holes they believe they need to fill in order to win a Super Bowl (that’s if they don’t win it this year).
Bill Belichick is known for stocking draft picks for the middle and later rounds of the NFL Draft. With two picks in the later-part of the first round, New England would be an ideal team to trade down with one of their picks.
If you asked me before the season if I thought the Patriots would trade out of the first round once again I would have said that it would be a stupid move given their lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball.
But, since they have two picks in the first round and have had success with finding talent in later rounds, New England trading out of the first round will most likely happen given their history.
Belichick and New England found Rob Gronkowski in the second and Aaron Hernandez in the fourth round in 2010’s NFL Draft. They have no trouble with finding talented players late in rounds—see Tom Brady.
