New NFL Rumors Reveal Bears Trade Candidate Ahead of 2026 Season

The Chicago Bears reportedly are discussing moving on from a key defensive player.

Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the team has had trade talks regarding defensive tackle Gervon Dexter and "there are multiple scenarios where a deal could get done sending him to a new team."

The report from Schultz comes after Dexter left Thursday's practice early, which perhaps is an indication that a trade is on the horizon.

It's unclear whether Dexter and the Bears have had contract talks, but it's fair to assume they have considering he's entering the final year of his rookie deal. A potential trade could give Dexter the chance to get more money than he otherwise would have in Chicago.

Dexter, 24, is coming off a season in which he logged a career-high six sacks along with 44 total tackles in 17 games. His continued growth was a bright spot in what was an overall rough year for the Bears' defense, which allowed the fourth-most yards per game (361.8).

It's unclear which teams are eyeing a potential trade for Dexter, but the Bears would seemingly try to get back a player or two in the deal, considering the lack of depth along the defensive line.

Dexter started all 17 games last year, and Chicago would need someone to come in and fill the void that he would leave if he were moved. The Bears added a few players to the defensive line this offseason, but it's fair to say none are starting-caliber players on a team looking to get back to the playoffs.
