Fantasy Football's Top 25 Quarterbacks For 2010: Take Two

It’s been a month since we last looked at the Top 25 quarterbacks for 2010 and there certainly have been some changes.  What is going on with Brett Favre?  Are the Cardinals set to change their offensive strategy?  How does the Vincent Jackson drama affect Philip Rivers? 

Let’s take a look at how the rankings currently look:

Thoughts

• The ongoing concerns surrounding Vincent Jackson have to take a little chunk out of Philip Rivers’ value.  We’ve talked about Malcolm Floyd’s potential (click here to view), but is that really enough?  Downgrade Rivers a few spots for the time being.
• We are still awaiting definitive word that Brett Favre is returning to play for the Vikings in 2010.  In fact, Favre has said that he’s still experiencing discomfort in his ankle, despite the recent surgery.  At this point, how can we consider him a No. 1 QB?  Obviously, if he gets to 100 percent, that will change, but for now he has to fall outside the Top 10 due to the risk.
• Concerns have surfaced surrounding Carson Palmer’s ability to throw the ball deep.  Robert Weintraub of Football Outsiders was recently quoted in the Cincinnati Enquirer saying, “Our game charters noted only 15 percent of Palmer’s throws as 'deep' or 'bomb.' By contrast, noodle-armed Chad Pennington threw 19 percent of his balls deep or bomb in 2008 in a similar scheme. Palmer threw long 23 percent of the time in 2007.” (click here for the entire article).  While the addition of Jermaine Grisham will help with the short passing game, you still want to see him take his shots deep in order to produce big numbers.
• The Cardinals were a big-time passing offense in the past, but with Matt Leinart now at the reigns, the team appears primed to run a bit more.  Coach Ken Wisenhunt was quoted on CBS Sports as saying, “I’d like to run it more than we have the last couple of seasons” (click here for the full article).  That’s got to knock Leinart down a few spots.
