Fantasy Football Week 10: Sunday Morning Game-Day Preview
I'm thrilled about Week 10 of the fantasy football season, especially in daily fantasy.
DFS is a ton of fun this week because this is the time to pay down at quarterback, start Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson and San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon, and deal with the rest.
There are plenty of exciting games this week, with the nightcap being the Seattle Seahawks going on the road against the New England Patriots.
See, NFL—good prime-time games equal good ratings.
Simple.
Monday Night Football should be an OK game as well with the Cincinnati Bengals taking on the New York Giants.
So yeah, in DFS, play Gordon, Johnson and Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian and go from there.
Win some money this week. Wrap up a playoff spot.
Just win, baby.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Green Bay Packers at Tennessee Titans
1 of 12
Game Preview
This isn't a matchup we see all that often—the Green Bay Packers on the road against the Tennessee Titans.
Coming into this game, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has been red-hot since Week 5 to the tune of being the QB1 in fantasy.
On one side, you have the Packers and a depleted secondary, and on the other, you have Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who's pretty good at football.
According to Odds Shark, this game has a 49.5 total, so it goes to show you that Vegas expects a ton of points here.
Points equal fantasy points.
I like the Packers 31-21.
Injury Updates
Week 10 could feature the return of Packers running back James Starks. He's been limited throughout this week of practice, but you have to wonder how many snaps he'll actually play in his first game back since Week 5 with a knee injury.
Fantasy Fixtures
This section quickly covers the must-start assets on each respective roster.
Packers
I'm starting four players on the Packers: Rodgers and wide receivers Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery.
Cobb, who is no longer listed on the team's injury report, is in a nice spot to produce with a full workload.
Montgomery is perhaps one of the most valuable assets to have in fantasy football right now—he's getting carries, man. If I can get eight, maybe 10 definite touches in the backfield before he even catches the ball, I'll take that all day long. Sign me up.
Titans
Mariota has been the QB1 over the last several weeks, so it is impossible to sit him.
If this game stays close, I'm a fan of running back DeMarco Murray. While fellow back Derrick Henry has been getting in full practices, the rookie has seen just 47 total snaps over the past three games. This is definitely Murray's backfield.
I'm also a fan of tight end Delanie Walker this week, especially if the Titans are playing from behind—they could rely on him.
Sleepers and Streamers
Here are the options on each roster who offer underrated upside.
If you're desperate, take a shot on Starks, though I'm not confident he'll play a ton of snaps.
He's not really a sleeper at this point, but Titans wide receiver Rishard Matthews is on our radar in points-per-reception leagues. After he saw 10 targets last week and has scored three touchdowns over the last two games, it's hard to dispute Matthews as the team's No. 1 wide receiver.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Kansas City Chiefs at Carolina Panthers
2 of 12
Game Preview
This season, the Carolina Panthers have allowed 52 quarterback hits on Cam Newton. While this ranks 11th in the league, Newton was hit just 61 times all season in 2015.
Also, no Panthers wide receiver has caught a touchdown since Week 5.
Crazy.
For the Kansas City Chiefs, we should expect quarterback Alex Smith back this week.
Additionally, did you know that the Chiefs are 16-2 in their last 18 regular-season games? That is incredible to think about. The Chiefs and Smith are 16-2—wow.
This is about as good a week as any for Newton to finally get things going. The Panthers' backs are up against a wall, and they need to almost win out to secure a playoff berth.
They are three-point home favorites, and this game has a total of 44.
I'll take the Panthers at home, 24-17.
Injury Updates
The big news here comes in the form of Chiefs wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. He will be out this week due to a groin injury that he reaggravated in Week 9.
Fantasy Fixtures
Chiefs
I know I'm going to regret this, but I'll say that tight end Travis Kelce is a fixture this week. With Maclin out, it's hard to deny the upside of Kelce as the only viable pass-catching option.
Panthers
With their backs up against a wall, I'm all in on the Panthers passing game. This includes Newton, wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and tight end Greg Olsen.
Earlier in the slide, I mentioned that no Panthers wide receiver has a touchdown catch since Week 5—that ends this week. Benjamin is a must-play this week against cornerback Phillip Gaines.
Olsen is a usual go-to option for Newton, and it's tough to do much better than him this week.
For Newton, I'm feeling two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. The Panthers are not going to take their feet off the brakes. They need to score and build their confidence to keep a positive momentum going and secure a playoff spot as the season progresses.
I'm all in on Newton this week.
Sleepers and Streamers
There isn't exactly a player I'm in on as a sleeper this week, but if I had to pick, I'd go with Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill. It takes just one big play to make him viable, but with Smith throwing, that's going to be a gamble.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Minnesota Vikings at Washington Redskins
3 of 12
Game Preview
The Minnesota Vikings vs. Washington Redskins has the makings of a 12-9 thriller. It has one of the lowest totals on the slate at 41.5.
The Vikings are on a three-game skid, getting outscored by their opponents 63-36.
The Redskins are a 2.5-point home favorite. If this game had taken place a month ago, the Vikings would have been the favorites.
I'll take the Redskins 20-17 at home.
Injury Updates
Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson will likely miss this game with a shoulder injury. No, it has not been ruled on officially, and according to Liz Clarke of the Washington Post, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has yet to rule him out, but I'll guess he doesn't suit up. If he does, I'm staying away.
Fantasy Fixtures
Vikings
The only player I'm targeting here is wide receiver Stefon Diggs in PPR leagues. He has trouble finding the end zone, scoring just two times this season, but a 10-catch, 60-yard game is definitely in play here.
Redskins
I'm going with another pass-catcher: tight end Jordan Reed. He's the focal point on offense, and although the Redskins are facing the Vikings, Reed is essentially matchup-proof at this point. He's a must-start.
Sleepers and Streamers
Redskins running back Rob Kelley stands out here. Over the Vikings' losing skid, they have surrendered 117-plus rushing yards per game. What this play is all about is guaranteed touches.
According to Master Tesfatsion of the Washington Post, we could see fellow Redskins running back Matt Jones deemed a healthy scratch this week.
If that's the case, I'm on the Kelley bandwagon.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Chicago Bears at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4 of 12
Game Preview
This game could actually be fun.
Coming off a bye, the Chicago Bears will be on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Prior to their bye week, the Bears beat the Minnesota Vikings at home, which surprised most of us.
The total for this game is set at 45.5, and there's a chance we could see this one go over depending on which Jay Cutler shows up for the Bears.
Although the Bears beat the Vikings at home, I'm going to stick with the Buccaneers, who are a 2.5-point home underdog.
Prediction: Buccaneers 24, Bears 20 (to be conservative).
Injury Updates
The Buccaneers have been dealing with running back injuries all year. Jacquizz Rodgers will not play in this game due to a foot injury, but Doug Martin will be back, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.
Another injury to keep in mind here is Bears wide receiver Eddie Royal. He is listed as questionable but managed to practice on a limited basis this week, so he should be good to go.
Fantasy Fixtures
Bears
It's hard to deny wide receiver Alshon Jeffery here, right?
With that said, the options will be plentiful for Cutler with Royal's likely return, so there is a little bit of risk.
No matter, Jeffery is the best bet to score this week for the Bears.
Buccaneers
Wide receiver Mike Evans. Goodbye.
Sleepers and Streamers
Royal is an interesting PPR play this week, but you're banking on catches.
Another PPR option comes from the Buccaneers—wide receiver Adam Humphries. Coming off a seven-target game in Week 9, Humphries is the next in line with all the receiver injuries for the Buccaneers.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 12
Game Preview
This is a trap game for the Atlanta Falcons, and they're going to lose.
Bold? Maybe, but the Eagles defense is legit, and Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan playing outdoors in a cold game feels like a trap, in my opinion.
The total in this game exceeds the 50-point mark, so that is an encouraging sign for fantasy players.
The Eagles are slight home dogs, getting one point.
I'm taking the Eagles, 31-28.
Injury Updates
The Falcons will be without running back Tevin Coleman once again. He has not played since Week 7 with a hamstring injury.
Also, Falcons tight end Jacob Tamme will be on the shelf with a shoulder injury.
Fantasy Fixtures
Falcons
The lead receiver—Julio Jones—and lead running back—Devonta Freeman—are the definite plays here. Both of these players are just too good.
As Graham Barfield of FantasyGuru and Rotoworld points out, the Eagles have allowed a top-24 running back in four of their last five games since Week 4. That gives me more reason to start Freeman this week.
I'll consider Ryan a fixture too, but I'm a little nervous. Two touchdowns are definitely within his reach, though.
Eagles
It's happening: Wide receiver Jordan Matthews is going off this week. Coming out of the slot, he will draw Falcons cornerback Brian Poole. While Poole is good in his own right, Matthews will be the top target for quarterback Carson Wentz.
Running back Darren Sproles is dominating the snap count for the Eagles over the last three games, playing in 100-plus more than fellow running back Ryan Mathews. Sproles is a must-play this week.
Sleepers and Streamers
Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is in play here against a lousy Falcons defense. After he saw eight targets last week, Ertz and Wentz's chemistry must be starting to come together. It's important for a young quarterback to have a safety valve, and in a game where there could be tons of throwing, I'm a fan of safety valves.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Los Angeles Rams at New York Jets
6 of 12
Game Preview
Here comes the borefest of Week 10: the Los Angeles Rams at the New York Jets.
Both teams are brutal to watch. Whether it's the Rams and their lack of offense even with running back Todd Gurley or the Jets and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick's mediocrity, this total of 40 does in fact make sense.
There's not a ton of fantasy goodness here, and I do consider writing this slide to be torture, but here we are.
The Jets are a 1.5-point home favorite, but I'll take the Rams here because, well, why not?
Rams 14-10.
Gross.
Injury Updates
Gurley has been dealing with a thigh injury all week but returned to practice Friday, so the talented back should be good to go.
Fantasy Fixtures
Rams
No one. Seriously. None.
The Jets have a great run defense, and Gurley cannot get anything going, so I'm not touting him this week.
Jets
I guess wide receiver Brandon Marshall. He's a good player and Fitzpatrick's lead target.
Outside of Marshall, I'm not into anyone this week, including running back Matt Forte.
Sleepers and Streamers
The Rams defense is a play here. With how turnover-prone Fitzpatrick is, we could see a pick-six.
Rams tight end Lance Kendricks has—surprisingly—been involved lately, averaging nearly eight targets per game over the last three weeks. I don't know about you, but I'm a fan of targets.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Denver Broncos at New Orleans Saints
7 of 12
Game Preview
Could Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian hit 300 yards passing this week?
Yup.
Traveling on the road, the Broncos will do battle with the New Orleans Saints and their high school defense.
Believe it or not, but the Broncos defense has been bad lately as well, giving up over 170 rushing yards per game over the past two weeks.
The Broncos will also be without cornerback Aqib Talib and Derek Wolfe in this game, so that doesn't help their cause.
The Saints and quarterback Drew Brees at home is a thing of beauty, and they're beating the Broncos here.
This game has a total of 49, and the Saints are a three-point favorite.
Saints 31, Broncos 27.
Injury Updates
On the offensive side of the ball, there are no injuries of note on either side.
Fantasy Fixtures
Broncos
The only fixture from the Broncos is wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. This season, he has seen eight or more targets in eight of his nine games, so he's definitely getting targets.
Remember—this is the Saints defense.
This is a great spot for Sanders.
Saints
I'm going back to the well on wide receiver Michael Thomas. He's a bona fide WR1 in PPR leagues this season.
Brees is a definite play here. He's going to put up points regardless of the matchup, and he will pick apart this Broncos defense that has been on the struggling end these past few weeks.
Running back Mark Ingram should see 20-25 touches this game, and as mentioned before, the Broncos have given up over 170 rushing yards per game these past few weeks. Time to hit 'em while they're down.
Sleepers and Streamers
I'm a fan of Siemian this week. Over the past two weeks, he has reached 275 or more yards in back-to-back game and gets a much better matchup this week against the Saints, who give up nearly 310 passing yards per game.
Broncos running back Kapri Bibbs should see more run this week after outperforming fellow running back Devontae Booker in Week 9, so in a pinch, he's worth a flex start.
Lastly, consider Saints running back Tim Hightower. He should get a number of carries. It's all about opportunity, people.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars
8 of 12
Game Preview
Giving us a showdown in the AFC South is a quick way for ratings to dip, NFL.
Outside of fantasy football and fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans, no one cares about this game.
Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler still stinks. Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles still stinks.
Both of these teams have elite wide receivers, but the quarterback play is downright terrible.
This game has a fairly low total at 42, with the Jaguars being a two-point home favorite.
I'll never take Osweiler on the road.
Jags 20, Texans 14.
Injury Updates
According to John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site, wide receiver Allen Hurns is a game-time decision after dealing with a concussion.
Texans wide receiver Will Fuller is questionable with a leg injury, but he should suit up.
Fantasy Fixtures
Texans
I just can't get on board with anyone here, and that's just sad. The team features wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and running back Lamar Miller, and I just can't do it. I'd play Hopkins and Miller, but they're not fixtures this week.
Jaguars
If Hurns misses this one, fellow wide receiver Allen Robinson is in for a big game and will score this week. He'll get all the targets, and if the Jaguars somehow fall behind, they're going to throw with Bortles, the garbage-time all-star.
Running back Chris Ivory is the guy under new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and will get 20 or more touches in this game. He's going over 100 yards again in this one.
Play Ivory.
Sleepers and Streamers
The Jaguars defense has been playing well lately, and Osweiler is downright horrible. This is a risky play, but if it pays off, it should hit big. If you're in a pinch or in a deeper league, look to the Jaguars defense as a viable play.
Again, if Hurns is out, fellow wide receiver Marqise Lee is a decent option in PPR leagues. He should get some looks, but Robinson is still my go-to in this passing attack.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Miami Dolphins at San Diego Chargers
9 of 12
Game Preview
I'm so happy to see Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi doing so well. I've always had faith in him, and it will never waver!
Unfortunately, the team he's on isn't good and is on the road against a pretty good San Diego Chargers squad.
In fact, the Chargers are a 4.5-point home favorite with a combined team total of 48.5.
This is going to be a fun matchup of the sophomore running backs—Ajayi versus Chargers running back Melvin Gordon.
I'll take the Chargers at home, 28-21.
Injury Updates
The only notable injury is Chargers wide receiver Travis Benjamin—he's doubtful with a knee injury and has not practiced at all this week.
Fantasy Fixtures
Dolphins
Ajayi. Ajayi. Ajayi. He is unstoppable at this point and will still get work even if Miami is down. He has a chance to run his team back into games.
Jarvis Landry is always a must-start based on his receiving upside alone. Yeah, he burned people last week, but against the Chargers and a depleted secondary, he should corral eight or more catches.
Chargers
Gordon. Gordon. Gordon. I love both teams' running backs this week. Gordon is the only back for the Chargers and will get all the work.
Philip Rivers should also have a nice game this week, but he may be without a key receiver in Benjamin.
Sleepers and Streamers
Chargers tight end Antonio Gates has been getting more run lately with fellow tight end Hunter Henry nicked up. Henry should play this week, but he has been limited in practice, and you have to think that the Chargers want Gates to get the tight end touchdown record—he's just three shy of tying Tony Gonzalez's 111.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Dallas Cowboys at Pittsburgh Steelers
10 of 12
Game Preview
This is arguably the best game of the day.
Yeah, the Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a miserable loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but that was also quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's first game back since his knee injury.
The Cowboys have not lost since Week 1, and quarterback Dak Prescott is impressing everyone.
What also makes this game fun is both of these teams have a Big Three.
For the Cowboys, it's Prescott, wide receiver Dez Bryant and running back Ezekiel Elliott.
For the Steelers, it's Big Ben, wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le'Veon Bell.
This total of 50 is going to be beaten, and the Cowboys are getting 2.5 points.
I'll take the Cowboys on the road, 35-31. This is going to be a fun one.
Injury Updates
There are a few injuries here to cover.
For the Cowboys, quarterback Tony Romo is questionable despite practicing all week, but chances are he'll be inactive, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network (h/t NFL.com).
The rest of the injuries are on the Steelers' side of the ball: wide receiver Markus Wheaton, running back DeAngelo Williams and tight end Ladarius Green.
Wheaton is out with a shoulder injury, Williams is out after undergoing knee surgery, and my God—Green is active this week after being on the PUP all season with an ankle injury. Whew.
Fantasy Fixtures
Cowboys
You need to start the Big Three here. Prescott may need to play at a pace that he never really has to. If he throws 40 or more times, I'm in love with him this week.
Steelers
Again, the Big Three for the Steelers are must-plays. Roethlisberger and Co. in a high-scoring game is something I want to play around with.
Sorry for the lack of analysis, but these should go without saying.
Sleepers and Streamers
After I've projected the Cowboys will score 35 points, it's hard to go against tight end Jason Witten and wide receiver Cole Beasley, especially in PPR leagues. While one (or both) may not score, they'll get receptions.
I don't feel great about this, but Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates could get a target or two deep down the field, making him a boom-or-bust play this week. Let's just hope he can, you know, catch the damn ball.
Fantasy Football Week 10: San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals
11 of 12
Game Preview
This is going to be bad for the San Francisco 49ers.
49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw for nearly 400 yards last week, but that was against the New Orleans Saints. And yeah, the Cardinals defense has been somewhat of a letdown this year, and yeah, defensive back Tyrann Mathieu will be out, but they're a better unit than the Saints.
The total is 48.5, and most of that is going to come from the Cardinals. I'm afraid the 49ers are going to struggle to put up points here on the road.
The Cardinals will prevail 35-13.
Injury Updates
49ers running back Carlos Hyde is questionable for Week 10 with a shoulder injury and is looking more and more like a game-time decision. If he doesn't suit up, fellow running back DuJuan Harris figures to be the lead dog again.
Sticking with the 49ers, wide receiver Torrey Smith is questionable with a back injury, but he should play after practicing on a limited basis all week.
Fantasy Fixtures
49ers
None. I just can't do it this week. If Hyde suits up, I'd be OK with playing him, but other than that, I'm not in on anyone for the 49ers this week.
Cardinals
Running back David Johnson might score 40 this week in PPR leagues, and that's all I'm going to say about that.
Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald should see plenty of targets out of the slot against a bad 49ers defense. If you play DFS, the Cardinals passing attack is going to be vastly underrated this week, with Fitzgerald leading the way.
Sleepers and Streamers
When you look at the projected points, it's hard not to stream Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer here. This is a solid week for him to put up a 300-yard, three-touchdown game.
In a deep league, I'm a fan of Cardinals running back Andre Ellington. In a rout, we could see the Cardinals let Ellington get some run, or if Johnson were to unfortunately get hurt, Ellington will thrive against this 49ers defense.
Fantasy Football Week 10: Seattle Seahawks at New England Patriots
12 of 12
Game Preview
This is a rematch of Super Bowl 49 (no, I'm not doing all those silly Roman numerals—ain't got time for that).
The Seattle Seahawks will be on the road against the New England Patriots, with the Patriots coming in as 7.5-point home favorites. That's how good the Patriots are—they're more than a touchdown favorite against a stingy Seahawks team.
With Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson being plagued by ankle injuries this season, he's being forced to be more of a pocket passer and isn't able to scramble as much, ranking 10th in the league in quarterback carries with 28.
I'm not betting against the Patriots. A total of 48.5 seems like solid here.
Patriots 30, Seahawks 21.
Injury Updates
Patriots running back Dion Lewis has officially been activated and will play in Week 10, according to Field Yates of ESPN. Lewis, who has spent the entire season on the PUP with a knee injury, will finally suit up after more than a year on the shelf.
Seahawks running back Christine Michael is questionable with a hamstring injury, but he should play after getting in limited practices this week.
Back to the Patriots, wide receiver Chris Hogan is "truly questionable" for Week 10 with a back injury, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. It's not looking good for him this week.
We should mention Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett too. He's questionable with an ankle injury but should play after getting limited practices in all week.
Fantasy Fixtures
Seahawks
Tight end Jimmy Graham is a TE1 this season and should get plenty of looks this week. This is an underrated matchup between Graham and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.
It's unlikely the Seahawks will be up often (if at all) in this game, so they'll need to throw. Graham will be on the receiving end of an uptick in attempts by Wilson.
Patriots
The GOAT, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, is terrorizing opposing defenses this year and is just so good at identifying the open receiver.
Gronkowski is scoring two touchdowns this week. Yeah, the Seahawks could zero in on Gronkowski, but Brady will spread the ball around enough to nullify that strategy. So yeah, I'll say two Gronk smashes this week.
Sleepers and Streamers
Consider two running backs here: Patriots running back Dion Lewis and Seahawks running back C.J. Prosise.
Lewis is a total boom-or-bust option. There is a definite chance he plays only 10 snaps and does nothing in his first game back. The Patriots trust fellow running back James White, who should see multiple targets in this game. Lewis will not supplant him just yet (if at all).
Prosise could be the lead back for the Seahawks this week. Over the past two weeks, he has out-snapped Michael 49-46. While that may not be a large margin, Prosise is a much better receiving back. Couple this information with Michael's questionable tag and being less than 100 percent and we could see Prosise play the majority of the snaps in a game where the Seahawks should be down. I'm in on Prosise this week, especially in PPR leagues.
