Top 10 Plays and Moments from Chicago Bulls' 2014-15 Regular Season
Although the Chicago Bulls had an injury-plagued regular season, we still got to see plenty of exciting plays and moments.
Whether it was a monster poster dunk, a crowd-pleasing, game-winning shot or a gravity-defying alley-oop, we weren't left disappointed.
The Bulls finished with 50 wins and the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. Now they're all set to take on the sixth-seeded Milwaukee Bucks during the first round of the playoffs. Surely Derrick Rose and the guys can muster up a few more fascinating plays throughout the postseason.
What are the top 10 highlights of Chicago's 2014-15 campaign?
10. Nikola Mirotic's 'I Came for the Facial' Jam
1 of 10Leaving Nikola Mirotic off the list just wouldn't be right, as the bearded power forward is enjoying a sensational rookie year for Chicago.
He has scored at least 23 points on 11 occasions, including 28 versus the Charlotte Hornets on March 23. During that particular contest, Mirotic took the feed from Pau Gasol and slammed it home over Charlotte's Jason Maxiell.
What makes the play so great, though, was the reaction from energetic Bulls announcer Stacey King. "Meet me at the rim and don't be late," King yelled. "I didn't come for the massage, I came for the facial!"
You got to love Stacey King, man.
9. Otto Porter Takes a Short Nap
2 of 10Fast-forward to about the 54-second mark.
Otto Porter doesn't play for the Bulls, but this moment did happen against the team. And, of course, it made an appearance on Shaquille O'Neal's "Shaqtin' A Fool" segment.
Toward the end of March 3's 97-92 win over the Washington Wizards, Chicago's Tony Snell cut toward the baseline while Washington's Porter just stood there for a moment as if he was briefly stuck in cement.
The expression on Wizards coach Randy Wittman's face is simply priceless. He's like, "Um, did you fall asleep there for a minute?"
Shaq said it best: "Otto Porter puts his brain in Otto Pilot." Now that's what you call funny.
8. Joakim Noah Hands out 14 Assists...Again
3 of 10Last year, Joakim Noah impressively dished out 14 assists versus the New York Knicks. He became the first center to accomplish the feat since Sam Lacey did it back in 1978-79 with the Kansas City Kings. Yeah, that was a pretty long time ago.
There was no way Noah could ever pull it off again, right? Wrong. He came up with yet another 14-assist effort this season during March 20's meeting with the Toronto Raptors, and the Bulls won the contest 108-92.
With Rose missing a ton of games this season, Noah led the Bulls in assists for the second consecutive year. He's the epitome of a "point center."
7. Jimmy Butler's Alley-Oop Versus Houston
4 of 10Jimmy Butler had a phenomenal regular season, averaging 20 points per game and making his first-ever All-Star appearance. Speaking of phenomenal, that's the perfect word to describe his alley-oop against the Houston Rockets on Jan. 5.
During the second quarter, Bulls guard Aaron Brooks lobbed the rock to Butler, who caught it in midair and finished with authority.
"Jimmy Buckets" had 22 points in the contest, helping Chicago to a 114-105 win over MVP candidate James Harden's Rockets.
Feel free to replay this video a couple of times. It was that good.
6. Joakim Noah Posterizes Timofey Mozgov
5 of 10Bothered by offseason knee surgery, Noah wasn't always at his best this season. His knee looked fine in the April 5 contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers though.
Mike Dunleavy whipped the pass to Noah, who went up strong and dunked all over Cleveland's Timofey Mozgov.
The way Noah yelled, it looked like he was trying to get revenge or something. Oh wait, he was trying to get revenge. Mozgov posterized Noah back in Chicago on Feb. 12, so it was only fitting that Noah got a little payback.
The Bulls lost this game 99-94, but such a powerful dunk couldn't be left off the list.
5. Derrick Rose Forces a 2nd Overtime
6 of 10The Dec. 2 game against the Dallas Mavericks ended up being a double-overtime thriller won by the Mavs 132-129. So then why is this even on the list? Hey, it was just a fascinating contest to watch, as it kept your eyes glued to the television for the duration of the game.
First, Kirk Hinrich fouled Dallas' Monta Ellis while attempting a three-pointer, and Ellis hit all three free throws to send it to overtime No. 1.
Then, later on, Rose came through big time by knocking down a one-handed, buzzer-beating three to force double overtime.
Sadly, Rose's next decisive shot didn't end up falling, as he attempted to tie the contest at the end of the second overtime.
This play would've been higher on the list if the Bulls had won.
4. Pau Gasol Ices the Victory
7 of 10Gasol secured the April 3 win over the Detroit Pistons with 5.7 seconds to go in the contest. He threw down a thunderous tip-in dunk off Taj Gibson's missed jump shot and drew a foul on Detroit big man Andre Drummond in the process.
Stacey King was hyped once again, yelling, "Oh Pau, Pau, Pau, are you not entertained? Are you not entertained?"
Gasol went on to hit the free throw as the Bulls picked up an 88-82 home victory. The five-time All-Star finished with 26 points and 10 boards for his 50th double-double of the season. He became the first Bull to reach 50 double-doubles since Charles Oakley recorded 53 during the 1986-87 campaign.
And yes, Stacey, we were entertained.
3. Pau Gasol Goes off for 46 and 18
8 of 10If you're a Los Angeles Lakers fan who didn't want Gasol to leave, this video might make you cry a little.
Gasol scored a career-high 46 points and pulled down a whopping 18 rebounds in the Bulls' 95-87 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 10. "He wasn't going to let us lose tonight," Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said, per The Associated Press (via ESPN.com).
That's an incredible performance for any player, especially a 34-year-old. Gasol became the first Bull since Michael Jordan (March 1990) to record at least 46 points and 18 boards in a single game.
Lakers fans, go get your tissues.
2. E'Twaun Moore Sinks OKC
9 of 10Most NBA fans know who Rose, Gasol, Noah and Butler are, but what about the legendary E'Twaun Moore?
OK, he's not exactly one of the league's most well-known players. The Purdue product only averaged nine minutes per game for the Bulls this season.
However, he certainly was a hero during March 5's 108-105 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Moore drilled a three-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining, and the United Center crowd simply erupted. The monumental bucket would prove to be the game-winner.
With Rose, Butler and Taj Gibson unable to play, the Bulls needed someone to step up. That's just what Moore did, scoring a career-best 19 off the bench and shooting a red-hot 9-of-10 from the field.
1. Derrick Rose Lifts the Team Past Golden State
10 of 10Arguably the league's best team, the Golden State Warriors were only defeated at home twice this season. One of those losses came against the Bulls on Jan. 27.
That night, Rose put the team on his shoulders and had a memorable performance in the 113-111 overtime victory. Despite committing 11 turnovers to just one assist, the former MVP went off for 30 points, grabbed seven boards and even came up with a block.
With seven seconds remaining, Rose knocked down a jumper over Klay Thompson which went on to be the game-winner. This was an outstanding win for the Bulls, who managed to pulled it off without their leading-scorer, Jimmy Butler.
